Role Overview
This internship sits within UNEP’s climate communications function, where you will help turn complex climate science and policy research into accessible publications, digital content, and live events that reach decision-makers and the public. Day to day, you will coordinate the production and distribution of key reports, refresh web pages, support campaign activations, and keep internal tracking systems updated so that progress is visible to funders and leadership. Your work matters because it ensures UNEP’s climate messaging is timely, accurate, and genuinely useful to partners across the world.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the end-to-end launch of climate publications, from draft review to final release and post-launch follow-up.
- Support the distribution of flagship UNEP reports and campaign materials, identifying relevant audiences, partners, and networks and ensuring they receive content promptly.
- Keep climate-related webpages current and accurate by coordinating content updates with web editors and verifying that links, figures, and language remain correct.
- Assist in planning and delivering climate events and campaign activations, including logistics, speaker coordination, and on-the-day support.
- Track communications outputs and funded deliverables, maintaining records that feed into internal reviews and periodic donor reports.
- Prepare concise meeting notes for recurring coordination calls and follow up on agreed action points with team members.
- Liaise with UNEP’s editorial, multimedia, social media, web, and translation teams to keep communications products moving forward on schedule.
- Apply design skills as needed to adapt presentations, social media assets, and other materials; take the lead on selected initiatives aligned with your interests and skills.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Enrolment in or completion of a graduate programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), OR enrolment in or completion of the final academic year of a first university degree (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
- A field of study closely related to this internship, preferably communications, international affairs, environmental studies, or a related discipline.
- No prior professional work experience is required, but you must demonstrate a solid grasp of standard software, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, given the volume of moving parts across publications, events, and reporting cycles.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and to communicate clearly in writing and in meetings.
- You must indicate which of the education eligibility criteria you meet and attach proof to your application; an official certificate will be required later in the process.
