Job Description

Role Overview

This role focuses on managing property and commercial transactions for a respected law practice based in Nairobi's Upper Hill. Day to day, you will handle conveyancing deals from initial client instruction to final registration, while also advising businesses on contractual and regulatory matters. Your work directly supports the firm’s growth by ensuring each transaction is legally sound, efficiently closed, and aligned with the client's commercial objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end conveyancing matters including property purchases, sales, leases, and transfers, coordinating all steps from due diligence to registration.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, sale agreements, financing documents, and security instruments.
  • Perform title searches, land registry inquiries, and legal risk assessments for both property and corporate transactions.
  • Liaise with government bodies, banks, surveyors, valuers, and estate agents to ensure timely execution and stamping of documents.
  • Advise clients on corporate structuring, share transfers, and regulatory compliance relevant to commercial operations.
  • Maintain detailed matter files, track deadlines, and provide progress updates to clients and internal teams.
  • Monitor changes in land law, company law, and related regulations to keep advice current and minimise client exposure.
  • Support business development by building strong client rapport and identifying additional legal services the firm can offer.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum two years’ post-admission experience in a busy law firm handling conveyancing and commercial work.
  • Upper second-class Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from a recognised university.
  • Valid practising certificate issued by the Law Society of Kenya.
  • Strong drafting skills with the ability to produce clear, precise legal documents under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated commercial awareness and sound judgement when assessing risk and advising clients.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, capable of explaining complex legal concepts to non-lawyers.
  • Self-starter who manages multiple transactions simultaneously without compromising quality or ethics.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to client service.
