Job Description

Role Overview

This is a hands-on position for an advocate who will handle the full lifecycle of property and real estate transactions, from initial due diligence through to registration at the Lands Registry. Day-to-day work involves drafting sale agreements and leases, advising clients on legal procedures, and coordinating with lenders, government offices, and surveyors. Your work directly supports the firm’s conveyancing practice and ensures every deal closes smoothly and in compliance with Kenyan land law.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out detailed due diligence on all conveyancing transactions, prepare sale and completion documents, and oversee proper registration with the relevant authorities.
  • Draft and review property lease agreements, ensure timely execution by all parties, and maintain signed contract records.
  • Provide clients with clear, practical legal advice on the steps involved in buying, selling, or leasing property.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between the firm and external stakeholders, including mortgage lenders, the Land Registry, government departments, estate agents, land valuers, and surveyors.
  • Prepare and review security documentation, confirm correct execution and registration, and advise on related risks.
  • Draft, negotiate, and finalise commercial contracts and other legal documents related to corporate and property transactions.
  • Issue terms of engagement and fee estimates to clients, manage billing, and oversee disbursements.
  • Handle all client matters before the Lands Registry, local authorities, Survey of Kenya, and the National Lands Commission, ensuring timely follow-up.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year post-admission experience in a busy law firm with a focus on conveyancing and property law.
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with an upper second-class honours from a recognised university.
  • Valid practicing certificate from the Law Society of Kenya.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear legal reports and opinions.
  • Strong legal research and document drafting abilities, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • High level of integrity and professional ethics.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to multitask under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Leadership skills and interpersonal capability to manage client relationships and work collaboratively with colleagues.
