Role Overview
This position sits at the meeting point of patient care and clinical education: you will train the next generation of physiotherapists by turning classroom theory into hands-on competence inside a working teaching hospital. Day to day, you will run practical sessions in the physiotherapy laboratory, guide students through supervised patient contact, and keep the teaching equipment safe, functional and ready for use. The role matters because student competence at the point of care depends directly on the quality of the practical instruction and clinical supervision they receive from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver practical demonstrations and skills sessions covering physiotherapy assessment techniques, therapeutic exercise, manual therapy and electrotherapy modalities.
- Supervise students during clinical rotations, observing their patient handling, treatment delivery and documentation, and giving structured corrective feedback.
- Assess practical competence through skills checklists, logbook reviews, ward-based evaluations and practical examinations, and record results accurately.
- Prepare the teaching laboratory before each session, including setting out treatment plinths, modality machines, consumables and anatomical teaching aids.
- Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot laboratory and electrotherapy equipment, arranging repairs or replacements and keeping servicing records up to date.
- Manage equipment and consumable inventory, tracking usage in compliance with departmental records and accounts requirements.
- Enforce infection prevention, safety and ethical practice standards among students during demonstrations and patient contact.
- Coordinate with academic and clinical staff on rotation timetables, student placement allocations and evaluation schedules, and support continuous review of practical teaching content.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Physiotherapy from a recognised and accredited institution.
- Certificate in clinical instruction for physiotherapy.
- Valid and current Practicing License issued by the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya.
- Registered member of the Kenya Society for Physiotherapists, in good standing.
- Demonstrated merit and ability in facilitating practical demonstrations, managing laboratory equipment, or supervising students in an academic or clinical training setup.
- Proficiency in computer applications for records, assessments and reporting.
- Working experience in a busy clinical environment within a teaching hospital will be an added advantage.
