Job Description

Role: Clerk of Works

Industry Sector: Construction / Real Estate Development

Remuneration: Attractive (Negotiable based on experience)

Employment Nature: Full-time

Location: Ruiru

Primary Mandate

We are seeking an uncompromising, detail-driven Clerk of Works to serve as the primary defender of quality and compliance on our construction site. Your objective is to ensure that all civil, structural, and architectural works are executed in strict alignment with approved technical blueprints, structural drawings, and specified Bills of Quantities (BOQs). Acting as the eyes and ears of the project team, you will monitor contractor workmanship, audit material integrity, and pre-emptively flag structural risks. This role demands a seasoned construction professional who balances rigorous technical supervision with strong site diplomacy to keep projects safe, compliant, and on schedule.

Core Workstreams

Technical Supervision & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee daily engineering and building activities to verify exact compliance with architectural blueprints and structural specifications.

  • Inspect construction materials, pouring techniques, and artisanal workmanship to eliminate structural defects or sub-standard execution.

  • Identify, document, and issue rectification instructions for any technical non-compliance or engineering risks discovered on site.

  • Perform meticulous pre-handover inspections to validate completed project phases before engineering sign-offs.

Operational Coordination & Schedule Tracking

  • Synchronize workflows between principal contractors, sub-contractors, independent consultants, and the internal project management desk.

  • Track daily milestone progress against master timelines, proactively reporting structural delays or performance friction.

  • Analyze and help resolve technical bottlenecks, ensuring the correct operational sequencing of building phases.

  • Represent the site operations team during technical progress meetings, providing clear updates on structural milestones.

Documentation, Safety & Regulatory Compliance

  • Interpret complex technical diagrams, mechanical layout drawings, and contractual BOQ data with precision.

  • Draft highly detailed daily, weekly, and monthly site reports capturing labor outputs, weather impacts, and quality controls.

  • Enforce unwavering adherence to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) protocols, building codes, and county environmental mandates.

  • Stop unsafe working practices immediately and ensure corrective safety barriers or procedures are deployed.

Expertise Profile

The Essentials

  • Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Building Construction, or Construction Management.

  • Domain Expertise: Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on experience in construction site supervision, structural auditing, or civil works management.

  • Blueprint Competence: Absolute fluency in reading and breaking down structural plans, complex technical drawings, and BOQs.

  • Leadership Value: Proven experience directing diverse contractor and artisan teams under minimal supervision.

Required Competencies

  • Technical Eye: Sharp focus on structural accuracy, leveling, material mixing ratios, and finishing quality.

  • Administrative Clarity: Competence in generating orderly, clear technical site logs and progress documentation.

  • Risk Perception: Proactive ability to spot potential structural failures, soil issues, or safety hazards before they escalate.

  • Resilient Communication: Authoritative yet professional interpersonal style required to manage contractor accountability.

The Value Proposition

  • Project Ownership: Take professional charge of a major structural development in the rapidly growing Ruiru hub.

  • Technical Rigor: Apply your civil and structural expertise on a site committed to modern engineering standards.

  • Career Growth: Secure a critical leadership role backed by a highly competitive and attractive term's structure.

Submit your CV for the Clerk of Works role. Ensure your application explicitly details your 3–5 years of site supervision experience and your background in interpreting civil/structural drawings.
