Role Overview
IDinsight helps development organizations base their decisions on rigorous evidence, and the organization is now expanding its work with governments, funders, and frontier AI tools. The Chief Strategy & Growth Officer is a C-suite role reporting directly to the CEO, with day-to-day ownership of how IDinsight defines its direction, delivers on measurable goals, and builds the relationships that enable impact at scale. This leader runs the strategic planning and board governance cycles, drives new growth initiatives and major partnerships, and champions IDinsight's work in public forums where evidence and cost-effectiveness are central to the conversation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the organization-wide strategy cycle, including setting, testing, and refreshing strategic plans in collaboration with the Executive Team and Board, and running the annual OKR process with quarterly reviews that identify where to pivot, escalate, or reallocate resources.
- Serve as the primary C-suite partner to the Board, preparing strategic materials, managing governance processes, and ensuring board members are aligned and informed as IDinsight grows.
- Own the scale and cost-effectiveness pillars of the strategy, working with leadership to help NGOs scale through government partnerships, embed AI innovation in government systems, and support evidence-informed decisions across countries.
- Identify and stand up major strategic initiatives, including evaluating new large-scale opportunities and leading due diligence on 1–3 viable merger or acquisition prospects alongside the CFO and CEO.
- Steward organization-level relationships with key funders and partners—especially data- and evidence-focused philanthropic communities—and support "big bets" in the 7- to 9-figure range, distinct from project-level donor work.
- Drive a visible thought leadership presence through conferences, publications, podcasts, and sector forums, making the case for data and evidence as levers for large-scale impact.
- Partner with the Chief Impact Officer to ensure IDinsight applies evidence to its own operations, closing the loop between execution and learning while supporting AI transformation across global teams.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Proven track record of leading an organization through significant scale growth, with direct experience delivering in low- and middle-income country settings.
- Demonstrated fundraising capability with EA-adjacent, data-focused, and scaling-focused funders—this is a non-negotiable requirement.
- Strong thought leadership presence, including published writing, public speaking, and credibility across the international development or evidence sector.
- Ability to design, develop, and deploy organizational strategies that respond to macro trends in global development and the broader funding landscape.
- Operational experience in LMIC settings, with the ability to translate global strategy into regional execution and practical decision-making.
- Experience with board engagement, governance, and executive-level stakeholder management, including handling sensitive or confidential matters with integrity.
- Exceptional judgment and problem-solving in fast-moving environments, with a bias toward action rather than process for its own sake.
- Deep alignment with IDinsight's commitment to rigorous, cost-effective, evidence-based impact.
- Nice-to-have experience includes mergers, acquisitions, or organizational integration in the nonprofit or social enterprise sector; existing networks in the EA, GiveWell, or Open Philanthropy ecosystems; a background in evidence, evaluation, or data science; comfort with AI tools; and a history of building high-performing teams across multiple geographies.
What We Offer / Why Join
This is one of the most consequential leadership roles in the evidence-for-development space. You will have direct ownership of IDinsight's strategic direction, growth agenda, and external positioning—not an advisory seat, but a mandate to set the pace and be held accountable for results. The work sits at the intersection of rigorous evaluation, applied evidence, and frontier AI, with partners including major foundations and implementers who are already using data to improve lives.
You will also build functions that do not yet exist. The scale pillar of IDinsight's strategy currently has no dedicated owner, board management is in transition, and the organization's thought leadership around large-scale funding bets needs senior direction. This is an opportunity to define those priorities from the ground up while contributing to a mission that matters: ensuring data and evidence improve lives at a scale the sector has not previously reached.
