Chaplain (Priest)

Role Overview

The chaplain delivers spiritual care and pastoral counseling to personnel and their families, often within a multi-faith, international, or deployment environment. Day to day, this means leading worship, offering confidential support during personal or professional crises, and advising leadership on ethical, moral, and resiliency concerns. The role is central to sustaining the emotional and spiritual readiness of the workforce, especially when people are far from home or facing high-pressure situations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead non-denominational worship services, religious rites, ceremonies, and observances that respect the beliefs of a diverse, multi-faith population.
• Provide confidential pastoral counseling, crisis intervention, grief support, and emotional care to individuals dealing with personal or professional challenges.
• Plan and facilitate group worship, prayer meetings, religious education classes, and faith-based programs.
• Advise leadership on ethical, moral, spiritual, and resiliency matters that affect personnel and organizational readiness.
• Promote an inclusive environment that honors the religious beliefs, practices, and cultural backgrounds of all personnel.
• Maintain accurate administrative records and documentation for ministry activities while upholding strict confidentiality and complying with Navy, Amentum, and contract standards for conduct, ethics, and professionalism.
• Collaborate with medical personnel, behavioral health professionals, and leadership to support the overall wellbeing of the workforce.
• Participate in emergency response, crisis management, and deployment support activities as needed.

Requirements & Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One to three years of experience in pastoral ministry, chaplaincy, or spiritual leadership.
• Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
• Ability to provide confidential counseling and emotional support to people from diverse backgrounds.
• A valid passport with at least one year of remaining validity at the time of hire.
• Ability to obtain country-specific visas in accordance with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the deployment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials and authorization.
• English proficiency sufficient to perform contract requirements and follow installation emergency procedures.

Preferred:

• Advanced theological education, ministry training, or formal religious education.
• Prior experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
• A valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle legally.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution skills.
• Experience supporting military, government, or federal organizations.
