Role Overview
This role places you directly alongside micro and small business owners in the Dadaab community, helping them gain the skills, confidence, and financial clarity they need to grow. As part of the Business Growth Services team, you will lead training sessions, provide one-on-one business consulting, and act as the local face of Inkomoko — turning everyday entrepreneur challenges into actionable solutions that strengthen the whole community.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit and enroll eligible entrepreneurs, clearly explaining program goals and expectations to participants and community groups.
- Deliver hands-on training using Inkomoko materials in English, Swahili, and Somali, while coordinating all logistics from printing to attendance to venue setup.
- Conduct monthly site visits to each client business, helping owners build cash flow statements, assess profitability, and set realistic growth targets.
- Provide ongoing, practical advice that helps clients adjust to market changes, improve sustainability, and access additional Inkomoko services like financing.
- Maintain accurate client records in the electronic tracking system, including baseline assessments and progress updates for the M&E team.
- Collaborate with local authorities and partner organizations, representing Inkomoko at community events and resolving any implementation challenges that arise.
- Support investment colleagues with loan applications, due diligence, and credit repayment follow-up when needed.
- Submit timely weekly and monthly reports, and assist with surveys, data collection, and administrative tasks as required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- University education in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, or a related field (current students may be considered).
- Strong spoken and written communication in English and Swahili; Somali is highly desirable.
- Basic digital literacy with Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint; comfortable using smartphones and electronic systems for data entry.
- Solid understanding of small business finances, including cash flow, profitability, and Kenyan tax or financial policies.
- Coaching and relationship-building skills — able to listen with empathy, build trust, and adapt communication across diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Personal initiative, critical thinking, and the ability to work under pressure while staying honest, professional, and perseverant.
- Must be based in Dadaab and available on a full-time basis, with no current employment from another organization.
