Role Overview
This role is responsible for driving both medical and general insurance business growth at a branch level, with a strong focus on hitting retention, new business, and premium collection targets. You will work across all channels, managing broker and intermediary relationships, overseeing the quoting and renewal process, and ensuring the branch operates smoothly through effective cross-departmental collaboration. Your efforts directly influence the branch's market position and long-term profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the full business development cycle for all medical and general insurance lines at the branch, ensuring premium targets are met consistently.
- Identify and implement market expansion strategies tailored to the branch's specific customer base and regional opportunities.
- Manage the sales pipeline by processing quotations, tracking pending business, and delivering proposals to clients and intermediaries within agreed turnaround times.
- Develop and operationalise service level agreements with intermediaries to guarantee differentiated and efficient service delivery.
- Maintain inter-departmental service standards, coordinating with underwriting, claims, finance, and operations to keep the branch running without friction.
- Drive renewal retention by monitoring upcoming policies, following up proactively, and achieving set retention benchmarks.
- Champion cross-selling initiatives across the branch to deepen relationships with existing clients and maximise revenue per account.
- Coordinate intermediary activity, including meetings, training sessions, and performance reviews, to ensure alignment with branch objectives.
- Track competitor activity and market shifts by reading industry publications, participating in professional networks, and engaging directly with market players to spot new opportunities.
- Organise market intelligence data, categorising and storing insights to help inform product development and sales strategy.
- Manage outstanding debts on the branch's book, keeping collections within the agreed debt management standards.
- Control branch spending on travel, events, and promotional materials, while planning budgets for brand-building activities aligned with the annual marketing calendar.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance legislation, regulatory changes, and industry trends that could affect the branch's competitive advantage.
- Ensure brokers meet all licensing and onboarding requirements in line with third-party compliance standards, and coordinate audits as required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Insurance, Law, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- At least 8 years of professional experience in insurance sales, business development, or underwriting, with a demonstrated track record of meeting revenue targets.
- Professional qualification such as ACII or Diploma in Insurance (UK), or AIIK or Diploma in Insurance (Kenya) is required.
- Strong knowledge of both medical and general insurance products, as well as the regulatory environment in which brokers and insurers operate.
- Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders, including intermediaries, clients, and internal departments, with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Experience in preparing service level agreements, monitoring performance metrics, and using data to inform business decisions.
