Job Description

Role Overview

This position places you in charge of a full-service bank branch, where you will own the complete profit-and-loss picture for both retail and business banking activities. Day to day, you will translate the bank’s strategic priorities into a practical branch action plan, guide your team on sales and service execution, and hold the branch accountable for risk, compliance, and audit outcomes. Your leadership directly shapes customer loyalty, portfolio quality, and the branch’s standing as a reliable financial partner in the local community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set clear branch performance targets for growth, profitability, customer retention, and transaction migration, then monitor progress and adjust tactics to stay on course.
  • Lead sales and cross-selling initiatives with product teams, asset finance, bancassurance, and corporate banking partners to expand the branch’s share of wallet and deepen client relationships.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the branch’s most valuable clients and local business influencers, using market intelligence to identify new opportunities and respond to competitive and regulatory changes.
  • Oversee the branch’s operational discipline, ensuring opening and closing procedures, system batches, approvals, and documentation follow bank policies and regulatory timelines.
  • Protect the bank and its customers by championing KYC, AML, and financial crime prevention protocols, promoting vigilance when on boarding new accounts, handling foreign exchange trades, and safeguarding sensitive records.
  • Drive a superior customer experience by monitoring service queues, managing complaint resolution within set turnaround times, and using feedback platforms such as NPS to continuously improve service delivery.
  • Manage branch costs closely, reviewing supplier quotations, overtime, stationery, utilities, and sundry losses to protect the branch’s bottom line without compromising service standards.
  • Coach, motivate, and develop branch colleagues through performance feedback, structured training, succession planning, and fair handling of leave, grievances, and disciplinary matters.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A university degree in a relevant discipline; a postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
  • At least five years of banking or financial services experience, including three years in branch management with a demonstrated record of meeting business targets.
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire teams, collaborate across functions, and lead change in a customer-facing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of lending, credit underwriting, investment products, customer relationship management, and portfolio risk management for both personal and business clients.
  • A thorough understanding of banking regulations, compliance obligations, and audit standards, including familiarity with national regulators and statutory bodies.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities, comfortable using banking systems, spreadsheets, and performance data to make sound commercial decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of guiding staff, engaging senior stakeholders, and handling sensitive customer concerns with professionalism.
  • A consistent record of achieving sales goals and a results-driven mindset focused on operational excellence and control rigor.
