Role Overview
You will be the face of our dining experience, responsible for delivering fast, friendly, and polished food and beverage service from the moment a guest walks in until they leave. This role blends barista craft with full table service, meaning your day alternates between pulling consistent espresso shots, mixing cold beverages, taking orders accurately, and ensuring every table feels looked after. Your work directly shapes guest satisfaction and repeat business, so precision, warmth, and a calm manner under pressure are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet guests promptly with a professional and welcoming attitude, then guide them through the menu, daily specials, and any active promotions.
- Take food and beverage orders with full accuracy, relay them clearly to the kitchen and bar, and confirm any special requests or dietary adjustments.
- Prepare a full range of drinks including espresso-based coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fresh juices, smoothies, and milkshakes, following standard recipes and presentation guidelines.
- Set up, operate, and clean coffee grinders, espresso machines, blenders, and other beverage equipment, troubleshooting minor issues and reporting malfunctions immediately.
- Serve food and drinks using proper table service techniques, checking back with guests to see if anything else is needed and addressing extra requests without delay.
- Handle guest questions, feedback, and complaints professionally, resolving what you can on the spot and escalating serious issues to the Restaurant Manager.
- Suggest menu items and confidently upsell beverages, desserts, sides, and combo meals in a way that feels helpful rather than pushy.
- Process orders, bills, and payments accurately through the point-of-sale system, including cash handling and card transactions.
- Clear and reset tables quickly, keep dining and counter areas neat, and maintain the coffee station, utensils, and service equipment to hygiene standards.
- Track stock levels of ingredients, cups, and service supplies, reporting low inventory or damaged items so reordering happens without disruption.
- Support opening and closing duties such as setting up service areas, restocking stations, and doing end-of-day cleaning.
- Assist with takeaway, delivery, event, and catering orders, including outdoor and off-site setups where you may need to carry supplies and serve from temporary stations.
- Coordinate closely with kitchen, cashier, and bar staff to keep service smooth during peak hours and large functions.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least 2 years of hands-on barista experience in a café, restaurant, or similar fast-paced setting.
- A formal qualification in Barista Training, Food and Beverage Service, Hospitality, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Solid working knowledge of coffee preparation, milk texturing, beverage recipes, and proper table service etiquette.
- Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly and handle complaints tactfully.
- Proven ability to upsell menu items and increase average check value without compromising guest experience.
- Comfort operating espresso machines, grinders, blenders, and point-of-sale systems accurately and efficiently.
- Reliable, honest, and well-groomed, with the flexibility to work effectively within a team and also handle solo tasks.
- Ability to stay composed and professional during rush periods, long shifts, and unexpected service interruptions.
- Physical fitness to stand for extended hours, move catering equipment, and work in outdoor or off-site banquet environments.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, public holidays, and extended shifts as rostered.
- Availability to attend a practical interview where you will be assessed on barista skills and waiter/waitressing service techniques.
