Backend Software Developer

Role Overview

As a Backend Software Developer at Riset Software & Systems Ltd, you will work at the core of the business platforms our clients depend on every day — ERP, point-of-sale, and broader business management systems where data integrity, uptime, and speed directly affect how our customers trade. Day to day you will move between extending existing modules, tracing down faults inside large Laravel codebases, and connecting our systems to outside services through APIs and webhooks. This is a role for someone who enjoys owning the less visible layer of a product: the queries, queues, permissions, and integrations that keep everything else running reliably at scale.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, extend, and maintain backend features for ERP, POS, and business management applications using PHP 8+ and the Laravel framework.
• Model new database structures in MySQL or MariaDB and tune existing schemas, indexes, and queries so that data-heavy screens and reports stay responsive as records grow.
• Design, document, and consume REST APIs, including JSON payloads, webhook handling, and integrations with third-party platforms and payment or service providers.
• Implement authentication and authorization flows, and review code and server configuration for security weaknesses such as insecure data handling or over-permissive access.
• Set up and monitor background jobs, queues, cron entries, and scheduled tasks so that long-running or recurring work completes without blocking users.
• Investigate and resolve production issues across the stack — from application exceptions and slow queries to Linux server, web server, and deployment problems.
• Work within an existing Git-based workflow, submitting reviewed changes and collaborating with the wider development team on shared branches and releases.
• Profile and optimize application performance, caching layers, and infrastructure usage to keep operating costs and response times under control.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Strong professional experience with PHP 8+ and a solid track record building applications in the Laravel framework.
• Confident MySQL or MariaDB skills, covering schema design, joins, indexing strategy, and query optimization on large datasets.
• Practical experience developing and integrating REST APIs, including JSON, webhooks, and third-party service connections.
• Working knowledge of authentication, authorization, and secure coding practices in a web application context.
• Comfort operating in Linux server environments, including command-line work, scheduled tasks, and basic server troubleshooting.
• Experience with background jobs, queues, and cron-driven processes in a production system.
• Strong debugging instincts and the ability to read, understand, and safely modify an unfamiliar or legacy codebase.
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative version control practices.
• Demonstrated ability to work on large, database-driven systems and to deliver secure, scalable backend solutions.
