In four years we've sold 1.6 million solar lights to off-grid families in South Asia and Africa— all paid for up-front, in cash— the latter 1 million customers acquired over the past year. Our products were recognized recently as 'the best solar lamp' in the Economist. Uniquely, we sell our life-changing Sun King solar home lights to off-grid families in India and Africa through a massive direct sales force of trusted, village-level sales agents that penetrate deeply into rural markets to promote our products home to home and build trust in our brand at a micro level. Today 5,000 active Saathis bring clean, safe light to 40,000 new off-grid homes each month. We're now expanding our distribution network from three states to the whole of rural India and East Africa, an under-penetrated market of half a billion emerging consumers. And we are releasing more trustworthy, aspirational products to keep our network busy. Specialties Rural marketing, Solar lighting, India, Africa View more View less

Job Description

Role Overview

This position is built for someone at the start of an HR career who wants to learn what real business partnering looks like by mastering the operational foundation first. Day to day, you will own the employee journey from their first day to their last, keep the HR system and personnel files accurate, and serve as the first point of contact for everyday questions from staff and managers. Working under the guidance of an experienced HR Business Partner, you will turn administrative tasks into a springboard for understanding how HR strategy actually lands across a business unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain complete and up-to-date employee records on the HR information system, processing joiners, movers, and leavers, and preparing contracts and official letters.
  • Coordinate the full onboarding experience for new hires, arranging paperwork, system access, and inductions before day one, then staying in touch through the probation period.
  • Respond to first-line employee enquiries about company policy, leave, medical cover, and benefits within agreed timeframes, escalating complex matters to the HR Business Partner where needed.
  • Support hiring by scheduling interviews, communicating with candidates, organising reference and background checks, and preparing offer documentation for roles within your allocated business unit.
  • Take accurate minutes during disciplinary and grievance meetings, maintain confidential case files, and track key review dates for probation and performance improvement plans.
  • Produce monthly reports on headcount, leave, attrition, and probation status, reviewing the data for anomalies and flagging anything inconsistent.
  • Help deliver engagement initiatives, wellbeing sessions, and policy awareness activities across the business unit, contributing to a positive workplace culture.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A degree in Human Resource Management or a closely related field.
  • One to two years of professional HR experience, including full-time, internship, attachment, or assistant-level roles.
  • Registration with the Institute of Human Resource Management is an added advantage.
  • Strong organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to juggle multiple requests without losing track of any.
  • Proven discretion when handling sensitive employee information, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable engaging professionally with employees at every level.
  • Hands-on experience with HR information systems and strong proficiency in standard computer applications.
