Role Overview
This position sits at the front end of the Group Life pipeline, turning raw scheme data and benefit designs into priced quotations that sales teams, brokers and corporate clients can act on quickly. Day to day, you will weigh member demographics, claims history and benefit structures against approved rates and treaty terms, then shepherd each case through approvals, compliance screening and file setup. Getting this right protects the book's profitability, keeps reinsurance arrangements intact, and gives the business a reputation for responsive, well-documented service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate Group Life quotations within agreed turnaround times for sales teams, intermediaries and direct corporate clients.
- Apply approved pricing models, rate tables, underwriting guidelines and delegated authority limits, while respecting reinsurance treaty conditions.
- Assess member schedules, benefit structures, claims experience and other risk disclosures to determine suitable pricing and quotation terms.
- Escalate pricing exceptions, non-standard terms and cases falling outside approved parameters to Actuarial, Underwriting leadership or Senior Management, and secure sign-off before any quotation is released.
- Confirm that proposed terms align with reinsurance arrangements, including Free Cover Limits, retention levels, facultative placement needs and reinsurer-imposed conditions.
- Coordinate onboarding of new schemes by checking proposal documentation, member data, premium calculations and outstanding supporting requirements.
- Carry out KYC/AML screening on new schemes and intermediaries, escalate flagged cases and confirm compliance clearance before a scheme goes live.
- Build and maintain complete new-business records on the approved platform ahead of handover to the Underwriting team.
- Deliver member education sessions, client presentations and intermediary briefings covering Group Life benefits, onboarding steps and the company's value proposition.
- Produce reporting on quotations, production, conversion rates, turnaround times and new-business activity, drawing out trends, gaps and unresolved items.
- Keep quotation, approval, KYC/AML, reinsurance and onboarding documentation accurate and audit-ready, in line with internal controls, data-protection rules and regulatory expectations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Insurance (BCom), Statistics or a related quantitative field.
- Ongoing progress toward a Diploma in Insurance.
- At least 4 years of hands-on experience administering or underwriting Group Life schemes.
- Working familiarity with IRA regulatory requirements affecting group life business.
- Strong analytical capability, with the ability to interpret claims experience and member data and translate it into pricing decisions.
- High attention to detail and comfort working with structured data sets.
- Technology-forward mindset, including genuine interest in emerging tools such as AI and machine learning.
- Confident interpersonal and stakeholder-management skills for dealing with sales, intermediaries, clients and senior approvers.
- Added advantage: proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, exposure to automation or scripting tools, and demonstrated communication and presentation ability.
