Role Overview
You will serve as the key bridge between business stakeholders and the technology team, ensuring that banking operations are supported by a stable, high-performance core banking system. Day to day, you analyse complex data integrity issues, coordinate system upgrades and software releases, and guide junior IT support officers to maintain near-continuous uptime. Your work directly impacts the reliability of critical financial services, making this role essential to the organisation’s operational resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with business analysts and product owners to understand functional requirements and translate them into clear, actionable technical specifications for the core banking platform.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee system enhancements, version upgrades, and patch deployments, ensuring minimal disruption to live banking services.
- Diagnose and resolve complex data integrity issues by writing advanced SQL queries, auditing relational databases, and liaising with database administrators.
- Lead a small team of IT support officers, setting priorities for incident resolution, monitoring system performance, and conducting post-mortems on service interruptions.
- Manage relationships with core banking software vendors, from negotiating change requests to reviewing release notes and validating test outcomes.
- Create and maintain technical documentation such as system architecture diagrams, data flow mappings, and runbooks for operations teams.
- Support user acceptance testing (UAT) cycles by preparing test data, tracking defects, and verifying fixes before production deployment.
- Monitor system logs and performance metrics to proactively identify potential bottlenecks or security vulnerabilities, then recommend corrective actions.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline.
- Five to seven years of professional experience as a systems analyst, with a proven track record in a banking or financial services environment.
- Strong command of SQL for querying, reporting, and troubleshooting across relational database systems (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
- Hands-on familiarity with at least one major core banking platform (e.g., Temenos, Finacle, SAP Banking Services) or equivalent transaction-processing systems.
- Demonstrated experience leading technical teams – for example, assigning tasks, conducting code reviews, or mentoring junior staff – without necessarily holding a formal management title.
- Solid understanding of IT vendor management, including contract scoping, service-level agreement monitoring, and escalation handling.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down ambiguous issues into structured, testable solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, comfortable presenting technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and writing clear documentation.
