Job Description

Role Overview

This position blends architectural design work with the practical running of the Bank's flagship capital buildings, so the person in the seat moves between drawing board, site and operational troubleshooting. Day to day they turn business growth projections into buildable space plans, drawings and specifications, then stay with those projects through consultant coordination, construction, commissioning and handover. Just as central is keeping the buildings safe, compliant and properly maintained, working with landlords, regulators and service providers while running workplace improvement projects that shape how staff experience their offices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architectural design and documentation: prepare concepts, space plans, technical drawings, specifications and construction documentation for capital building projects, making sure every package meets Bank standards, statutory regulations and operational requirements.
  • Space planning intelligence: compile space utilisation and occupancy reports for the Space Committee, drawing on current usage and growth forecasts to give leadership a clear basis for decisions about accommodating expanding operations.
  • Consultant coordination: align architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, ICT, security, fire and quantity surveying consultants so their designs fit together and their deliverables land on schedule.
  • Project coordination: support branch development, refurbishment, relocation, fit-out and maintenance projects across their full lifecycle, keeping scope, programme, budget and quality on track.
  • Commercial and cost review: examine bills of quantities, valuations, payment applications, variation orders and cost appraisals, and give technical recommendations that safeguard both value and standards.
  • Site supervision, systems and handover: conduct inspections, assess workmanship, build snag lists and chase corrective actions; verify completed work against approved drawings and specifications; confirm commissioning of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fibre, CCTV, access control, alarm and fire systems; and manage handovers plus Defects Liability Period obligations.
  • Compliance and stakeholder liaison: support adherence to OSHA, fire safety, environmental and internal governance requirements, serve as the department's UORCCO champion by coordinating meetings and preparing minutes, and maintain productive relationships with contractors, consultants, landlords, regulators, service providers and internal colleagues. This includes preparing drawings and technical documentation for facilities management work affecting capital buildings.
  • Workplace enhancement and continuous improvement: lead initiatives within the capital buildings portfolio that lift employee experience and reinforce the Bank's brand — for example the Wall of Fame and branded crockery — and identify ways to make space work harder and operations run more smoothly.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Architecture, Building Science, Construction Management, Facilities Management, Civil Engineering, Building Economics or another built-environment discipline from a recognised institution.
  • Registered Architect or Graduate Architect with the Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS) or an equivalent professional body.
  • Membership of a relevant professional association such as the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK), the Institute of Construction Project Managers of Kenya (ICPMK) or the International Facility Management Association (IFMA).
  • Four to six years of relevant experience spanning architecture, facilities management, construction project management, workplace planning or building operations, ideally gained in a corporate, institutional, commercial real estate or banking environment.
  • Certification in facilities management, project management or occupational health and safety would be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated strength in architectural design and space planning, plus facilities and building operations management.
  • Working knowledge of construction and contract administration, project coordination and delivery, and the commercial side of built-environment projects.
  • Proven ability to manage consultants and stakeholders, handle risk and regulatory compliance, and apply quality assurance and site inspection discipline.
  • Confident report writing and presentation skills, with the ability to turn technical detail into clear recommendations for decision-makers.

Why Join

This role offers a rare mix of strategic and hands-on work: you will influence long-range space decisions while still walking sites, reviewing valuations and commissioning systems. You will work across a wide network of consultants, contractors, landlords and internal teams, and you will see the direct effect of workplace projects on how colleagues experience their environment.
