KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Assistant Laboratory Technician will support the laboratory team in the following areas:
- Draw samples at appropriate stages to meet the requirements of relevant stakeholders.
- Clearly label and seal samples, particularly those retained for reference.
- Prepare sample containers prior to collection and analysis.
- Deliver samples for laboratory analysis and ensure proper logging.
- Analyze samples using appropriate techniques and instruments for specified parameters such as flashpoint, water content, density, moisture, kinematic viscosity, and distillation tests.
- Prepare laboratory reagents required for analysis.
- Ensure safe disposal of laboratory waste, reagents, and samples in accordance with safety standards.
- Coordinate servicing, repairs, and calibration of laboratory instruments.
- Provide timely and accurate reports on laboratory analysis.
- Liaise with external laboratories where additional analysis is required.
- Maintain accurate records of all items and samples received in the laboratory.
- Ensure laboratory safety procedures and standards are strictly followed.
- Requisition laboratory reagents, equipment, apparatus, and tools required for smooth laboratory operations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or a related field from a recognized institution.
Experience
- 1–2 years’ experience in laboratory analysis or related work.
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) practices will be an added advantage.
