The role partners with managers on staffing, employee relations, performance and development, while maintaining accurate HR information and supporting compliance in a labour-intensive, unionisable workplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help develop and apply HR policies, procedures and programmes that support organisational priorities, and advise managers on workforce planning and HR matters.
  • Coordinate recruitment and selection, keep candidates informed, and support onboarding, retention and talent development.
  • Guide managers through employee relations matters, investigations, disciplinary processes and grievance resolution, applying company policy and Kenyan labour law.
  • Maintain reliable HRIS data, personnel files, leave records and other employee documentation, ensuring information is handled securely and kept current.
  • Coordinate leave planning and records across assigned business areas, and provide accurate payroll inputs and monthly retirement reports.
  • Support performance management, including job description updates, KPI setting, appraisals and Performance Development Plans; follow up with managers on performance concerns and deadlines.
  • Organise orientation, training needs assessments and learning activities; track participation, maintain training records and assess training effectiveness.
  • Prepare and analyse regular HR reports on areas such as recruitment, workforce performance, employee records and compliance, and contribute to change, engagement, safety and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Social Sciences or an equivalent discipline from a recognised university.
  • At least six years of experience managing HR processes in a labour-intensive, unionisable environment.
  • At least three years of hands-on experience using an HR management information system (HRMIS).
  • Current membership of IHRM is mandatory.
  • Practical knowledge of Kenyan labour laws and experience handling industrial relations in unionised workplaces.
  • Strong working knowledge of recruitment, learning and development, performance management, compensation and benefits, HR policies and HR analytics.
  • CHRP certification is desirable; a Higher National Diploma in Human Resources Management is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated leadership, planning, coordination, problem-solving and reporting ability, with sound judgement and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills, together with the discretion and integrity required to handle confidential employee matters.
  • Ability to work independently, support and develop HR colleagues, and manage competing priorities in a diverse environment.
