Role Overview
This position supports the Housekeeping and Laundry leadership team by coordinating day-to-day operations during assigned shifts. You will supervise room attendants and laundry staff, inspect completed work, and step in to resolve issues that affect cleanliness, guest comfort, or team efficiency. Your main priority is maintaining a seamless operation where guestrooms, public areas, and employee spaces consistently meet brand standards while also helping the department stay within its financial targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily flow of housekeeping and laundry work by assigning rooms, prioritizing check-outs, and coordinating with the front desk on room availability and guest requests.
- Conduct regular inspections of guestrooms, corridors, public areas, and back-of-house spaces; document discrepancies and follow up with staff to ensure corrective action is taken.
- Partner with the engineering team to identify maintenance issues, track repair progress, and ensure rooms are taken out of service or released as needed.
- Monitor inventory levels for linens, guest amenities, cleaning chemicals, and uniforms, and place orders to prevent shortages without overstocking.
- Address guest complaints and service breakdowns directly, working with front office and other departments to resolve issues promptly and prevent recurrence.
- Support the department’s financial goals by controlling labor hours, monitoring supply usage, and helping to prepare or review operating statements and payroll reports.
- Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new team members; deliver on-the-job training and refresher coaching for room attendants and laundry staff.
- Document performance issues, participate in progressive discipline discussions, and ensure all employee actions comply with property policies and safety standards.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a housekeeping management role, preferably in a 5-star or luxury hotel environment.
- Strong knowledge of housekeeping procedures, cleaning standards, laundry operations, and safety regulations.
- Ability to inspect rooms quickly and thoroughly, with attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality results.
- Proven leadership skills, including the ability to train, coach, and hold team members accountable in a respectful and consistent manner.
- Solid communication and problem-solving skills for interacting with guests, frontline staff, and other department heads.
- Basic financial aptitude to understand budgets, payroll reports, and expense tracking as they relate to housekeeping operations.
- Flexibility to work mornings, weekends, and holidays as dictated by shift coverage and hotel occupancy.
