Role Overview
This Assistant Accountant position supports the finance team of an automotive business in Sharjah by handling the full cycle of routine accounting work. Day to day, you will process invoices and payments, keep ledgers current, reconcile bank and vendor statements, and assist with monthly reporting — giving management accurate figures for decisions and audit-ready records. You will work closely with colleagues in operations and procurement to make sure every financial transaction is properly documented from the moment an order is raised through to final payment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable and receivable transactions, including preparing invoices, purchase orders, and payment vouchers.
- Record and post journal entries while keeping the general ledger accurate and up to date.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies with supplier and customer accounts.
- Assist with payroll preparation by validating employee reimbursements and supporting payroll data entry.
- Maintain well-organised filing systems for financial records, ensuring each transaction is supported by the right evidence.
- Help prepare monthly financial statements and management reports for senior finance staff to review.
- Apply company policies and accounting standards to every entry, including VAT-related transactions and other compliance requirements.
- Support audit work by gathering schedules, ledgers, and supporting documentation as requested.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of hands-on accounting or finance experience, ideally in a transaction-focused role.
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and general ledger operations.
- Proven experience with bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate customer and vendor balances.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including vlookups, pivot tables, and basic formulas.
- Familiarity with accounting software and an ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Working knowledge of VAT and financial compliance requirements in the UAE.
- Strong analytical skills, numerical accuracy, and careful attention to detail.
