Aircraft Workshops Technical Assistant

Role Overview

This position supports certified maintenance technicians within an aviation component repair workshop, handling the routine but safety-critical tasks that keep the operation running smoothly. Day to day, the role involves cleaning parts and equipment, moving aircraft components through the workshop, preparing tools and workstations, and helping with materials logistics — all under supervision and strictly aligned with regulatory and company procedures. The work directly contributes to maintaining airworthiness standards and minimising aircraft downtime, making attention to detail and a disciplined approach essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean aircraft components, parts, and workshop equipment according to instructions from supervisory staff, using approved methods and materials.
• Support technicians during maintenance tasks by preparing tools, handing over components, and performing any assigned duties that help complete the work in line with the relevant maintenance manuals.
• Move and transport aircraft parts and components safely within the workshop, ensuring no damage occurs and that airworthiness requirements are respected at all times.
• Handle spares, tools, and equipment with care to prevent injury to personnel and avoid damage to company property, following safe handling practices.
• Use hand tools and equipment correctly for their intended purpose, keeping them in good working condition and reporting any faults.
• Draw and return tools from stores correctly so that they remain available for other team members, and maintain clean, hazard-free workbenches and work areas.
• Assist technical materials staff with loading, unloading, and receiving aircraft spares, tools, and equipment as needed.
• Keep company vehicles and workshop equipment clean, serviced, and presentable to the required standard, while adhering to published health and safety requirements at all times.

Requirements & Qualifications

• KCSE Certificate with at least a C plain, including a C in English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.
• A National Trade Test Certificate or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution is considered an added advantage.
• A valid driving license is required; a heavy vehicle license is preferred.
• Basic computer literacy is necessary for recording work and following digital procedures.
• Previous experience in airline maintenance or motor vehicle maintenance is an added advantage.
• Strong analytical thinking skills to identify potential issues and follow troubleshooting guidance.
• Good communication skills to take instructions clearly and coordinate effectively with technicians, engineers, and stores staff.
• Ability to concentrate for extended periods, follow strict aviation safety regulations, and work under demanding time schedules — sometimes for unpredictable durations — to help reduce costs associated with flight disruptions.
