Aircraft Maintenance Technician

Role Overview

This position sits within a busy aircraft maintenance environment, where the primary mission is to keep a mixed fleet of Kenya Airways and third-party aircraft airworthy, safe, and on schedule. Day to day, you will carry out hands-on maintenance across mechanical and avionics systems, diagnose faults, perform inspections, and return aircraft to service — all while complying with KCAA regulations and internal engineering procedures. Your certification authority and attention to detail directly protect passengers, crew, and the airline’s operational integrity.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks — including repairs, overhauls, component replacements, modifications, and system functional tests — on aircraft assigned to Kenya Airways and third-party operators, completing each job within planned turnaround times.
• Troubleshoot aircraft defects at system and component level using approved maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, and fault isolation procedures, and escalate complex issues to senior engineers as required.
• Perform routine inspections, routine checks, and predictive maintenance activities to evaluate aircraft condition and confirm continued airworthiness.
• Complete and maintain accurate maintenance documentation, including work cards, log books, and release-to-service certificates, ensuring full traceability and compliance with regulatory and company standards.
• Operate ground support equipment, test rigs, and tooling only after receiving proper authorization and training, and ensure all equipment is used safely and returned in serviceable condition.
• Apply company safety, health, and environmental policies on every shift, report incidents or near-misses promptly, and maintain housekeeping standards aligned with 5S principles in the hangar and workshop.
• Carry out security checks in accordance with the engineering security document annex 8, safeguarding aircraft, tools, and restricted areas against unauthorized access.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized aircraft maintenance apprenticeship or a KNEC Engineering Diploma (or equivalent) from a recognized institution, together with a KCSE aggregate of C+ including C+ in Mathematics, English, and Physics.
• At least three years of hands-on aircraft maintenance experience, or two years gained through a structured apprentice program, with demonstrated exposure to line or base maintenance operations.
• Solid working knowledge of aviation legislation and regulations, particularly KCAA requirements, with the ability to certify work within your authorized scope.
• Familiarity with industrial safety standards, material safety data sheets (MSDS), and risk assessment principles, and the ability to apply them in daily maintenance tasks.
• Competence in using maintenance data systems, technical manuals, and standard IT tools to complete work assignments and record accurate information.
• Strong troubleshooting capability at task level, following approved procedures under supervision while knowing when to escalate.
• Good communication skills for coordinating with supervisors, engineers, and internal customers, plus the ability to plan and organize your own daily workload once tasks are allocated.
