Agriculture Lecturer

Role Overview

This role involves delivering practical and theoretical instruction in agriculture to students at a college or TVET institution, preparing them for careers in agribusiness, extension, and related fields. Day to day, you will conduct lectures, design assessments, guide fieldwork, and advise learners on industry best practices—directly contributing to the institution’s mission of building skilled agricultural professionals. The position also requires active participation in curriculum development and quality assurance processes to meet TVETA standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver engaging lessons in agriculture, agricultural education, agribusiness, and extension, adapting content to diverse learner levels.
• Develop, administer, and grade examinations, assignments, and practical projects in line with institutional academic calendars.
• Supervise student fieldwork, farm practicals, and research projects, ensuring safety and adherence to industry protocols.
• Provide academic advising and mentorship to support student retention and success.
• Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum reviews, and accreditation activities required by TVETA and other regulatory bodies.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and feedback for reporting and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with external stakeholders—such as local farms or agri-businesses—to arrange internships and industry exposure for learners.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in Agriculture, Agricultural Education, Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Economics, or a closely related field from a recognized institution. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is an added advantage.
• At least two years of teaching experience at a college, TVET institution, or university level.
• A valid TVETA Trainer License or demonstrable eligibility to obtain one.
• Strong professionalism, patience, and adaptability, with a demonstrated commitment to student-centered learning.
• Flexibility to work according to the institution’s timetable, including evenings or weekends if required.
• Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and handle pressure without compromising quality.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Kiswahili (preferred).
• Strong research, critical-thinking, time-management, and attention-to-detail skills.
• Preference will be given to candidates currently residing in Machakos County.
