Job Description

Role Overview

This internship sits within EAMDA’s agribusiness and market systems team, where you will help turn analysis into action by supporting interventions that strengthen agricultural value chains. Day to day, you will assist with field-based assessments, coordinate activities with farmer groups and agribusinesses, and contribute to reports that guide programme decisions. The role matters because your work directly supports smallholders and enterprises in accessing better markets, technologies, and advisory services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate technical activities with farmer organisations, cooperatives, and agribusinesses, ensuring alignment with project timelines and objectives.
  • Prepare technical reports, activity summaries, and programme documentation to track progress and inform decision-making.
  • Conduct field visits to engage stakeholders, observe project implementation, and collect qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Assist in value chain assessments and market studies, including data collection, analysis, and interpretation of findings.
  • Compile market intelligence and agribusiness data, identifying opportunities, constraints, and potential intervention points.
  • Develop technical briefs, market profiles, and insights that support programme design and business development efforts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including research, communications, and data units—on assigned tasks and joint initiatives.
  • Support proposal development and business development activities as needed, contributing research and technical inputs.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Engineering, Agricultural Biotechnology, Agronomy, Horticulture, Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension, Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in agricultural innovations, agribusiness, and market systems programming (e.g., through coursework, projects, or volunteer work).
  • Understanding of agricultural value chains and core agribusiness concepts such as input supply, production, processing, and marketing.
  • Basic familiarity with market research methods and business analysis techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesise data into actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; comfort with data management tools is a plus.
  • Prior involvement in agricultural projects, farmer outreach, research assignments, or agribusiness initiatives is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; ability to communicate clearly with diverse stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel regularly within Kenya and engage with field-based partners and communities.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a strong desire to build technical expertise in agribusiness and market systems development.
  • Must be a recent graduate (within the last three years) and available for the full three-month internship period.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is a three-month, paid internship based in Nairobi with hybrid working arrangements depending on project needs. Regular travel within Kenya is required. You will receive structured mentorship and professional development support throughout the programme. A monthly stipend is provided to cover basic expenses.
