Job Description

Role Overview

You will serve as the legal authority for two interconnected businesses: The Great Rift Valley Retreat, a hospitality and property venture, and New Agrodeal Kenya Limited, an agribusiness operation. Your days will be split between land-focused legal work—title checks, conveyancing, subdivision, and transfer processing—and broader commercial responsibilities involving contracts, regulatory compliance, and dispute management. By providing clear, proactive counsel to management, you will help both companies navigate Kenya's legal landscape while protecting their assets and reputations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts, including customer supply agreements, vendor contracts, and land purchase or investment agreements.
  • Run land transactions from start to finish: verify titles, investigate ownership chains, prepare conveyance documents, and execute subdivisions and transfers at the relevant land registries.
  • Keep both companies compliant with Kenyan laws on agriculture, exports, labour, land use, and corporate governance—tracking changes in legislation and advising on necessary policy updates.
  • Handle dispute resolution across litigation, arbitration, and negotiation; instruct external advocates where needed and manage the relationship through to conclusion.
  • Act as the main point of contact with regulators, government offices, and land authorities, securing permits, consents, and approvals essential to operations.
  • Provide management with concise risk assessments and strategic recommendations on legal exposure, potential liabilities, and safe paths forward.
  • Maintain corporate records, ensure statutory filings are completed on schedule, and support board and shareholder procedures.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B) with admission to the Kenyan Bar and a clean standing.
  • At least 3 years of post-admission legal experience, with a substantial portion focused on land law, conveyancing, and title matters.
  • 3+ years in commercial real estate consulting or a closely related property law field.
  • Demonstrated skill in contract drafting, negotiation, and interpretation across diverse commercial agreements.
  • Working knowledge of Kenyan regulations relating to agriculture, exports, employment, land, and corporate compliance.
  • Strong capacity to manage multiple matters independently, showing sound judgment, creativity, and a commitment to ethical standards.
  • Experience in agribusiness, real estate, or export trade is an added advantage.
  • Must be authorized to work in Kenya.
