Role Overview
You will join a communications team focused on advancing conservation and sustainable development priorities across Africa, where your day-to-day work will turn complex policy and science into messages that resonate with decision-makers and the public. You will help shape advocacy content, conduct research on pressing environmental and policy issues, and support collaborative efforts that give local and regional voices greater influence. This role matters because clear, credible communications are essential to building momentum for conservation policies that protect nature and improve livelihoods.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft and edit communications products such as factsheets, messaging frameworks, policy briefs, and media materials that support advocacy campaigns.
- Translate technical or policy-heavy information into accessible, compelling language for diverse audiences.
- Conduct research on conservation, public policy, and sustainable development topics to inform campaign messaging and content development.
- Collaborate with multicultural and cross-functional teams to align communication efforts with broader advocacy goals.
- Apply visual storytelling and design best practices to enhance the clarity and impact of written materials.
- Support the development and refinement of key messages for use across different channels and stakeholder groups.
- Contribute to team discussions on strategic communication approaches and help identify opportunities to amplify advocacy efforts.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A completed bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Policy Studies, International Relations, or a closely related field.
- At least six months of relevant experience gained through internships, academic projects, coursework, or volunteer work.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to adapt tone and format for different audiences.
- Familiarity with visual storytelling principles and/or graphic design best practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within diverse, multicultural teams.
- Experience or coursework in communications, advocacy, public policy, or related fields.
- A commitment to values aligned with conservation, equity, and sustainable development.
- Desired: a recent graduate not currently enrolled in full-time education; multilingual abilities; cross-cultural experience; graphic design or multimedia skills; and experience developing communications products for advocacy or policy audiences.
