Role Overview
As an Actuarial Assistant, you will be a key support within the Group Actuarial team, turning data into reliable analysis for liability valuation, new product pricing, and performance tracking of existing products. Your day-to-day work will involve preparing and checking data, running and testing models, and keeping clear records of assumptions and methods so that the team's numbers can be trusted. This entry-level role is built for a recent actuarial graduate who wants practical exposure to modelling, systems, and analytics while contributing to the financial insights that guide the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather, clean, and validate data used in actuarial models and recurring reports.
- Run and test actuarial models under the direction of the Actuarial Analyst and Manager, documenting outputs and highlighting anything unusual.
- Keep assumptions, methodologies, and model settings well documented so that work can be reviewed and reproduced.
- Help automate routine model tasks and take part in process testing and improvement work.
- Support regular actuarial reporting, including reconciliations and data checks.
- Contribute to pricing and product performance monitoring by preparing calculations and summaries.
- Assist with financial projections and industry analysis that help the team understand market trends.
- Pitch in with analytical and technical tasks across the wider Group Actuarial team when required.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a closely related field.
- 0–2 years of actuarial experience; internships and graduate trainee placements are welcome.
- Progress toward actuarial exams with IFoA, SOA, ASSA, or an equivalent body is a plus.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Excel; exposure to SQL, Python, or Power BI is desirable.
- Strong numerical reasoning, problem-solving ability, and a sharp eye for detail.
- Analytical and curious, with a willingness to learn new actuarial systems and tools.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- Accurate, accountable, and able to take initiative in a changing environment.
