Job Description

Role Overview

The Refueller plays a direct role in keeping aircraft turnaround times on schedule by handling every fuel request with precision and safety. Day-to-day, you will operate fueling equipment on the ramp, verify fuel quality and quantity before each uplift, and coordinate closely with airline crew and ground operations teams to ensure no flight is delayed for want of fuel. Your attentiveness on the apron directly protects passengers, crew, ground staff, and the aircraft itself, making this position essential to the integrity of the entire ground operations chain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out aircraft refueling operations using hydrant dispensers, fuel trucks, or other approved equipment, strictly following each aircraft type’s specific fueling procedures and safety limits.
  • Inspect fueling vehicles, hoses, nozzles, couplings, and grounding cables before each shift to confirm they are in safe, working condition and free of leaks or damage.
  • Cross-check fuel grade, quantity, and quality against the airline’s fueling request and the aircraft’s documentation before beginning the operation.
  • Coordinate with airline representatives, pilots, and ground operations staff to agree on fueling timing and adapt to schedule changes without compromising safety.
  • Continuously monitor fuel levels and transfer rates during the fueling process, responding immediately to any anomalies or abnormal readings.
  • Complete accurate fueling logs, including volume delivered, vehicle reading, time, and flight details, then submit these records for daily and weekly operational reporting.
  • Report hazards, spills, equipment faults, or safety concerns to the supervisor immediately and assist with containment or corrective actions where needed.
  • Follow environmental compliance rules by handling fuel spills correctly, using spill kits, and disposing of contaminated materials in approved containers.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in Aviation Operations, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • At least 3–5 years of hands-on experience in aviation fueling, ground handling, or airport ground operations.
  • Practical knowledge of aviation fuel handling standards, including bonding/grounding procedures, fuel contamination checks, and safety zones around aircraft.
  • Familiarity with fueling equipment such as fuel bowsers, hydrant dispensers, filter monitors, and pressure refueling systems.
  • Certification in aviation safety, mechanical systems, or logistics (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Ability to work in shifts outdoors in varying weather conditions and under tight timeframes.
  • Strong attention to detail for record-keeping and safety checks, plus clear verbal communication for coordinating with flight crews and ground teams.
  • A safety-first mindset with the accountability to stop any operation if conditions are not fully compliant.
