Role Overview
This position centres on keeping the company’s financial operations accurate, transparent, and fully aligned with Kenyan statutory requirements. Day to day, you will manage ledgers, reconcile bank activity, prepare periodic statements, and handle filings such as PAYE, VAT, and withholding tax while also supporting internal decision-making with clear, data-backed insights. Your work will directly support audit readiness, budget discipline, and the overall financial integrity of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the complete accounting cycle, including journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and month-end closing procedures.
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements that accurately reflect the company’s performance and position.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring invoices are processed correctly, payments are tracked, and outstanding balances are followed up on time.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations, monitor cash flow, and flag any discrepancies or liquidity risks to management.
- Ensure full compliance with tax laws and accounting standards by preparing and submitting statutory returns, including PAYE, VAT, NSSF, NHIF, and withholding tax.
- Coordinate with external auditors by assembling supporting documentation, answering queries, and implementing audit recommendations.
- Assist in building annual budgets, tracking actual expenditure against projections, and providing variance analysis with practical cost-control suggestions.
- Identify workflow inefficiencies and contribute to the rollout of improved financial systems, automation tools, and internal controls.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a closely related field.
- Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K) qualification is mandatory.
- A minimum of five years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in a fast-moving or multi-task-oriented environment.
- Working knowledge of Kenyan tax legislation, IFRS, and financial reporting frameworks.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, and financial modelling.
- Practical experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, or comparable ERP platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritise competing deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to present financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
