Job Description

Job Title: Member of the Audit Committee – Makueni County

Makueni County seeks qualified and experienced professionals to serve as members of its Audit Committee. The Committee provides independent oversight of the county’s internal audit function, risk management, and financial reporting processes, ensuring compliance with the Public Finance Management Act and other relevant legislation. This role demands a thorough understanding of public sector auditing, devolved governance, and the highest standards of integrity.

Minimum Requirements

  • Be a Kenyan citizen.
  • Hold at least a bachelor’s degree from an institution recognized in Kenya.
  • Have at least 10 years of relevant experience, with 5 years in a senior management position.
  • Possess relevant qualifications and expertise in audit within public service or a devolved system of government.
  • Be a member in good standing of a professional body (added advantage).

Key Competencies and Knowledge

  • Good understanding of the mandate, objects, principles, and functions of internal auditing services in public service.
  • Sound knowledge of Public Sector operations, financial reporting, or auditing.
  • Thorough knowledge of Audit Committee operations, the Public Finance Management Act, and its Regulations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of:
    • National values and principles of governance referred to in Article 10 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
    • Principles of public service referred to in Article 232 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.
    • The objects, principles, and functions of the Government of Makueni County.

Disqualifications

  • Must not be a past or present employee of Makueni County.
  • Must not have served as an employee or agent of a business organization that has carried out any business with Makueni County in the last two years.
  • Shall not be a holder of a political office.

Additional Requirements

  • Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Being a member in good standing of a professional body will be an added advantage.
