About the Role
The Innovative Training Specialist (ITS) is a crucial role in the PEP project, with the responsibility of helping HRH training institutions embrace student-centred training approaches. This position involves transforming the HRH training and learning landscape by designing, developing, and implementing cutting-edge training programs that leverage emerging technologies and modern pedagogical approaches. The role further entails guiding partner HRH training institutions to prioritize modern learning techniques, such as eLearning, microlearning, gamification, Virtual Reality, and other Simulation Based Learning (SBL) methods, to enhance learners' acquisition of targeted competencies.
Reporting
The Innovative Training Specialist will report to the Technical Lead – Health Professions Education and functionally report to the AMIU ODeL Director (OBL Lead).
Principal Responsibilities
Planning and Coordination
- Participate in development and implementation of workplans for the PEP project.
- Generate and share relevant project reports with other team members.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of project activities.
- Work with relevant stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, to co-create and roll out novel and innovative student-centred training approaches.
- Liaise with other project staff at implementation sites to ensure harmonious execution of planned activities.
Technical Support
- Design and implement engaging training programs using modern instructional design methodologies such as ADDIE, SAM, and design thinking.
- Develop blended learning solutions combining eLearning, microlearning, virtual instructor-led training, and synchronous sessions.
- Leverage learning technologies such as LMS platforms, authoring tools, and AI-powered tools to create immersive learning content.
- Conduct Training Needs Assessments (TNA) to identify skills gaps among faculty and students, aligning learning solutions with PEP project goals.
- Facilitate learner-centred training sessions that lead to impactful behaviour change.
- Measure training effectiveness using data-driven metrics.
- Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop content that promotes active learning.
- Stay abreast of the latest trends in learning technologies, instructional design, and adult learning principles, continuously seeking opportunities to innovate and improve training offerings.
- Build capacity of faculty in partner institutions to deliver training through diverse methods, including in-person workshops, simulation labs, webinars, hybrid methods, and smart classrooms.
- Support the setup of Simulation Based Learning (SBL) Centres of Excellence (COE).
Community and Resource Mobilisation and Sensitization
- Advocate for the adoption of innovative training approaches.
- Develop various learning products on innovative and novel training and learning methods.
- Build awareness among stakeholders about available novel and innovative training solutions.
- Establish and sustain harmonious and gainful relationships with various stakeholders to facilitate successful project activities and implementation.
- Identify opportunities that can enhance project growth and communicate them to the regional project lead and AMIU's ODeL Director.
- Contribute to the development of fundraising concept notes and proposals based on emerging opportunities.
Financial Management
- Participate in financial resources management within the PEP project.
Research and Innovations
- Participate in the development and implementation of research protocols, data collection, report writing, and dissemination.
- Contribute to grant writing and implementation of research activities.
- Support AMIU faculty and graduate school students in developing and implementing research studies targeting novel and innovative training approaches.
- Support PEP partner institutions in developing and implementing various education research studies.
- Contribute to the dissemination of best practices at scientific conferences.
Reporting and Documentation
- Assist in data collection and analysis concerning project activities.
- Provide relevant reports as per project and donor requirements.
- Assist in capitalizing on best practices and lessons learned by developing success stories for publication.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
A Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, learning design and technology, medical/clinical simulation, curriculum and instruction, or related fields. A Bachelor's degree in health, education, or any other related field from a recognized university.
Required Experience and Expertise
- Knowledgeable in project management, designing, and deploying novel and innovative training interventions.
- Experience in setting up and managing Simulation Based Learning (SBL) labs.
- Demonstrated competence in multimedia design and production (video, audio, and interactive content), with an understanding of visual design and user experience principles.
- Knowledge and application of instructional frameworks such as Universal Design for Learning.
- Expertise in Learning Experience Design (LXD) for engaging, learner-centred, and inclusive training solutions.
- 3-5 years of experience in a training, L&D, personalized learning design, or instructional design role.
- Proven experience in designing and delivering multi-modal training programs.
- Proficiency with LMS platforms and e-learning authoring tools (digital fluency).
