Job Description
About the Role:
- We are looking for a highly skilled Water Scheme Manager & Water Treatment Plant Operator to oversee the operation and management of our water distribution system and treatment plant. This dual role requires expertise in managing water Infrastructure, connecting new water schemes, and operating the water treatment plant to ensure the delivery of high-quality water to the community. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing new connections, maintaining water quality, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, while leading a team of operators/technicians.
Responsibilities:
- Water Scheme Management:
- Develop and execute long-term strategies for water distribution, ensuring sustainability and reliability.
- Oversee and manage the design, planning, and execution of new water schemes, including connecting new customers, expanding the service area, and installing infrastructure such as pipelines and reservoirs. Monitor the performance of the water distribution network, identifying areas for improvement.
- Lead infrastructure projects like system upgrades, expansions, and repairs to enhance service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with local, regional, and national water quality and environmental standards.
- Engage with local authorities, regulatory bodies, and the public to address issues and provide updates.
- Prepare and manage budgets, ensuring financial efficiency for water scheme and plant operations.
- Water Treatment Plant Operation:
- Operate and maintain water treatment plant systems, ensuring high-quality water delivery.
- Conduct regular tests on water quality, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues, performing routine and preventative maintenance.
- Assess and optimize treatment processes to meet evolving requirements.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, including environmental laws, and promote safe work practices.
- Team Leadership & Staff Supervision:
- Lead and supervise plant operators/technicians, ensuring effective training and performance.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback to maintain operational excellence.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and lead safety audits.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Prepare and submit reports on water quality, treatment processes, and overall plant performance. Maintain accurate records for plant operations, maintenance, water quality tests, and compliance.
Who We're Looking For:
- Diploma or Higher National Diploma in Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years in water service provision or water treatment plant operations, with at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role.
- In-depth knowledge of water treatment processes (e.g., filtration, chemical dosing, disinfection) and water quality standards.
- Proven ability to manage teams with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with local and national water treatment regulations and safety standards.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write reports and engage with both technical and non- technical stakeholders.
- Relevant certifications in water treatment, plant operations, or health and safety (e.g., First Aid, HSE). Proficiency in using computer software for data analysis, reporting, and plant management systems. Ability to work in industrial environments, including outdoor and confined spaces, and handle potentially hazardous conditions.
- Ability to lift materials and perform tasks such as climbing, walking, and standing for extended periods.
