Trump Mobile T1 Phone Website Still Claims 'American-Made'
May 30 -
Trump Mobile T1 Phone: 'American-Made' Claim Persists on Website
Despite walking back its original promise of a fully American-made smartphone, Trump Mobile's website still contains a potentially misleading claim. The 'Phones' page meta title describes the T1 as a 'Premium American-Made Smartphone for Performance & Privacy,' a phrase flagged by SEO consultant Sam Penny. This meta title appears in browser tabs and search engine results, though not on the page itself. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) strictly regulates 'American-made' under its Made in USA rules, requiring products to be 'all or virtually all' made in the U.S., including components. Trump Mobile has admitted its parts are largely not U.S.-sourced, making this claim questionable.
FTC Compliance Concerns
The FTC's Made in USA standard demands that a product's final assembly and all significant processing occur in the U.S., with no—or negligible—foreign content. Since Trump Mobile now only claims the T1 is 'assembled' in the U.S., the lingering 'American-made' meta title could be seen as a violation. The Verge reached out to Trump Mobile for comment but received no response.

CNET's T1 Phone Review: Early Impressions

Customer Data Breach Investigation
The Guardian, with help from Columbia University professor Jonathan Soma, investigated a recent customer data breach. Soma found that the leaked data included 27,224 preorder entries, but many were generated when users reached the final step before payment—regardless of whether they paid the $100 deposit. This suggests the true number of confirmed preorders is even lower.
Key Findings from the Data Leak
- 27,224 total preorder entries in the leaked data.
- Entries created at the last step before payment, even without deposit.
- Actual paid preorders likely significantly lower.
T1 Phones in the Wild: YouTuber and Politician Sightings
Two more T1 Phones may have surfaced. YouTuber Quinn Nelson reportedly received the device, though it's unclear if his order was expedited. Additionally, a video of the phone booting up was posted by Tres Wittum, a Tennessee Republican who has run for Congress and Senate. If confirmed as a regular buyer purchase, this would mark the first sign of a standard shipment.
