Slackbot Becomes Smarter With AI Upgrade

Slack is turning Slackbot into an AI assistant, transforming its basic reminder bot into a smart, personalized companion. The update makes Slackbot far more capable — helping users plan projects, schedule meetings, find files, and summarize information from across their workspace.
According to Slack’s Chief Product Officer, Rob Seaman, this isn’t just a tweak. “Slackbot today is fairly rudimentary,” he explained. “We’ve rebuilt it from the ground up as a personalized AI companion.”
A Smarter, More Personal Slackbot
Previously, Slackbot served mainly as a tool for sending reminders and notifications. Now, it’s evolving into an intelligent assistant that understands context. With this update, you’ll be able to ask Slackbot questions like “What are my top priorities today?” or “Find the latest updates on the product launch.”
The AI Slackbot can gather information from conversations, documents, and Slack channels to deliver quick, personalized answers. It’s like having your own workspace search and planning assistant rolled into one.
Seamless Integration With Your Daily Tools
In the new interface, Slackbot will sit conveniently next to the search bar. Clicking it opens a chat-style panel on the right side of your screen — a familiar, conversational space where you can interact naturally.
Even better, Slackbot connects to tools you already use, such as Microsoft Outlook and Google Calendar. It can help schedule meetings, check team availability, and manage event updates without leaving Slack.
AI That Understands Your Workflow
During an internal demo shared with The Verge, Slack showed how the AI-powered Slackbot can organize complex projects. For instance, it can automatically build a product launch plan inside Slack Canvas, pulling relevant details from different channels and messages.
You can even ask it to draft marketing ideas or create a social media campaign aligned with your brand’s tone. This positions Slackbot as a true AI assistant for teamwork and productivity, not just a passive chat feature.
Smarter Search, Simpler Collaboration
One of the standout features is Slackbot’s natural language search. Instead of remembering exact keywords, you can type queries like “Find the document Jay shared in our last meeting.” Slackbot will then locate the right file — no endless scrolling required.
This human-like understanding makes Slack’s AI assistant a game changer for busy teams juggling multiple channels and projects.
Why This Matters For Slack Users
Slack’s push to enhance Slackbot with AI reflects a broader shift across workplace tools. As companies like Microsoft, Google, and Notion integrate AI assistants, Slack is ensuring its users stay ahead with smarter, faster collaboration features.
By embedding generative AI directly into its workflow, Slack is turning Slackbot into an AI assistant that doesn’t just respond — it anticipates your needs.
This update shows Slack’s commitment to making teamwork more intuitive and less time-consuming. With its new AI-driven capabilities, Slackbot evolves from a reminder bot to a true productivity partner, ready to help you stay organized and focused.
If early demos are any indication, Slack’s AI upgrade could redefine how teams communicate and manage projects in 2025.
