Oura Ring 5 Review: Smaller, Lighter, and Smarter Than Ever
May 29 -
Oura Ring 5: A Major Design Upgrade
The wait is finally over for those who found the Oura Ring too bulky. The newly announced Oura Ring 5 is significantly smaller and lighter than its predecessor. At just 6.09mm wide and 2.29mm thick, it is 40 percent smaller than the Oura Ring 4. Weighing between 2 to 2.69 grams depending on the size, the difference is immediately noticeable when you slip it on your finger.
Redesigned Components for Better Performance
While the overall look remains familiar, Oura has completely reengineered the internal hardware. The new design features stronger LEDs and an optimized battery that lasts between six to nine days. The ring is crafted from titanium with IP68 weather resistance, and the coating is reportedly less prone to scratching than previous models. A new "deep rose" color option adds a coppery rose gold finish to the lineup.
Charging Case Upgrades
The optional charging case now holds five full charges and supports wireless charging, making it much more convenient for travel. The case is sold separately for $99.
Software Updates: Health Radar and GLP-1 Insights
Alongside the hardware refresh, Oura is launching a suite of powerful new software features. Building on the existing Symptom Radar, the company introduces Health Radar—a comprehensive health monitoring suite. This includes nighttime blood pressure trends, breathing analysis, and the ability to import medical records directly into the app.
GLP-1 Tracking for Metabolic Health
For users interested in metabolic health, Oura now offers GLP-1 insights. This feature helps track medication dosages, monitor side effects, and understand how GLP-1s affect your biometrics—such as a mild increase in resting heart rate. Users can also upload lab results and chat with Oura's AI chatbot about the findings.
Important Caveat on AI Health Features
As with all AI health tools, Oura reminds users that the chatbot can hallucinate or provide poor advice. It is not a replacement for professional medical consultation.
Fitness Tracking and Research Upgrades
Live activity tracking gets a significant boost. The Oura app now supports pairing with third-party heart rate monitors and displays real-time metrics during workouts. Additionally, Oura is launching the Brain Health Study, allowing users to opt in and share data to help researchers study correlations between biometrics and cognitive performance.
Data Privacy Enhancements
Following last year's controversy over the Palantir partnership, Oura is introducing Time-based Data Deletion. This feature lets users erase their data from a specific time window, giving them more control over their sensitive health information.
Oura Ring 5: Price, Sizing, and Availability
The Oura Ring 5 starts at $399 for black and silver finishes and $499 for other colors. It is available for preorder now from Oura, Amazon, and Walmart, with shipping expected to begin June 4th. The Brain Health Study is live today, while other software updates roll out in June.
Sizing Considerations
As with the Oura Ring 4, the company recommends using a new sizing kit before ordering. Due to redesigned components, some users may find themselves between sizes. Note that the Oura Ring 5 is only available in sizes 6 to 13, dropping the smaller size 4 and 5 options found in the previous generation. There is also no ceramic finish available at launch.
