Intel is making a bold move into the handheld gaming PC market with the official announcement of its custom Intel Arc G3 and Arc G3 Extreme chips. Following the mixed reception of the first MSI Claw and the success of the MSI Claw 8 AI Plus, Intel is now targeting dedicated handheld devices. The new chips are designed to compete directly with AMD and Qualcomm in the portable gaming space.
Panther Lake Architecture with Xe3 Graphics
The Arc G3 series is built on Intel's Panther Lake architecture. The standard Arc G3 features 2 P-cores, 8 E-cores, and 4 LP E-cores, while the Arc G3 Extreme boasts up to 12 Xe3 GPU cores for enhanced gaming performance. Intel promises day-0 graphics driver updates and precompiled shaders to reduce stutter and load times, ensuring a smooth gaming experience.
Acer Predator Atlas 8: A New Contender
The Acer Predator Atlas 8 is one of the first handhelds to feature the Intel Arc G3 chip. Available in two variants, it offers either the Arc G3 with Arc B370 (10 Xe3 cores) or the Arc G3 Extreme with Arc B390 (12 Xe3 cores). Both models come with 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM at 7467 MT/s and a choice of 60Wh or 80Wh batteries.

The Atlas 8 features an 8-inch 1920x1200 IPS display with a 48-120Hz variable refresh rate and 500 nits brightness. Intel's new chip will also power the leaked MSI Claw 8 EX AI Plus and the OneXPlayer 3, which features detachable controllers.
