Apple Ends Support For Clips App
October 13, 2025 -
3 minutes, 32 seconds
Apple ends support for Clips video-editing app, marking the end of one of its most creative social media tools. As of October 10, 2025, the app will no longer receive updates and has been officially removed from the App Store for new users.
Apple Quietly Retires Its Clips Video-Editing App
Launched in 2017, the Clips video-editing app was Apple’s playful attempt to make short, shareable videos with music, filters, and text overlays. It quickly became popular among iPhone users who wanted an easy, built-in alternative to TikTok or Instagram Reels. Over the years, Apple added features like augmented reality effects and advanced editing tools to keep it fresh.
However, updates to Clips had slowed significantly in recent years — a sign that Apple might be moving on. Now, that speculation has proven true. The company has officially confirmed that Apple ends support for Clips video-editing app and will not push any further updates.
No More Downloads Or Updates For New Users
According to Apple’s updated support page, the Clips app is no longer being updated and is unavailable for download to new users. Those who already have the app can continue using it on their iPhones or iPads, but Apple recommends saving any projects or videos directly to the Photos library.
This precaution is important since future iOS updates could render the app unstable or unusable. Apple even provides detailed instructions on how to export your Clips videos — both with and without effects — to ensure you don’t lose your creative projects.
A Quiet End To A Fun, Forgotten App
While the Clips video-editing app never became as popular as Apple hoped, it did carve out a niche among casual creators who appreciated its simplicity. The app’s retirement signals Apple’s shifting priorities toward other creative tools like iMovie, Final Cut Pro for iPad, and AI-driven editing features in Photos and iCloud.
Still, many longtime users feel nostalgic about the move. For a time, Clips made video creation approachable, playful, and uniquely Apple.
What’s Next For Apple’s Creative Suite?
As Apple ends support for Clips video-editing app, the company might focus more on integrating its creative ecosystem. With the rise of AI-powered media tools and mobile-first editing workflows, Apple could fold Clips’ best features into iMovie or future iOS updates.
Whether this marks a complete end or an evolution, one thing is clear — Apple’s creative tools are entering a new era, leaving behind one of its most charming experiments.
