Why job seeking is so exhausting....

No update. No feedback. No simple message saying, “Thank you for applying, but we have moved forward with another candidate.”

I understand that HR and recruitment teams have a difficult job screening many applicants. I truly respect that.

But job applicants are also investing time, effort, internet resources, and emotional energy just to be considered. Especially for remote work applicants who may already be putting in extra effort to stand out.

As someone who continues pushing forward despite challenges, I just wish companies would remember that applicants are people too — not just resumes in a queue.

A simple update message means a lot. It shows respect for the effort someone gave to your hiring process.

Ghosting applicants after they submit requirements, record videos, or complete trial work can be very discouraging.

Let’s make hiring more humane and respectful. Communication matters.  less

The Reality of Job Searching (That No One Talks About Enough)

    Job searching is humbling.
    It’s hours of research.
Reading job descriptions line by line.
Trying to decode what they really want — beyond what’s written.

    It’s hope.
    It’s tailoring resumes.
It’s rewriting your story for the 15th time.
It’s knowing — deeply knowing — how successful you will be inside an organization.

    And then…
    It’s silence.
    It’s rejection.
    It’s “we went another direction.”
It’s qualifications that were never outlined in the JD.
It’s wondering if transparency still exists in hiring.

Here’s the part that’s harder to say out loud:
How do you know who will support you behind closed doors — and champion you when it matters most?

    I know what I bring.
You get loyalty — the kind built on mutual respect and shared goals.
    You get communication.
    You get clarity.
You get someone who will advocate for customers and for her team.
    You get results.

I’ve led large portfolios, scaled teams, built renewal frameworks from scratch, and delivered consistent retention and growth.

But beyond the numbers — you get someone who cares deeply.

Job searching isn’t just about finding a role.
    It’s about finding alignment.
    It’s about mutual commitment.

To anyone else navigating the ups and downs —
    Keep going.
Your value does not decrease because someone else doesn’t see it yet.
And when the right organization sees it?
    It will be powerful.  less

    Final interview.
They ask: “You are overqualified for this position.”

You say: “I don’t mind stepping back in my career.”
    Interview ends. No offer.

    Here’s what they actually want…

A stronger response would sound like this:

“I understand why my experience and background may appear overqualified for this role. The reason I’m interested is that this position allows me to make an impact quickly. I’ve done similar work on a larger scale, which means I can contribute immediately and deliver results for your organization.”

You can then address HR’s underlying concern directly:

“If your concern is about salary expectations or long-term tenure, I’d like to clarify my intention. I’m at a stage in my career where I want to focus and perform. This is not a temporary role or a stepping stone for me. It aligns with my goals, and I’m confident we can find a solution that works for both sides.”

    Why this answer works:
    1. It reframes “overqualified” as value, not risk.
    2. It shows the decision is deliberate, not driven by necessity.
    3. It reduces concerns about short-term tenure.
    4. It positions you as a high-quality hire from the start.
    5. It keeps the salary discussion open and professional.

This approach also naturally transitions the conversation to expected salary—allowing you to position yourself strategically, not defensively.

    The psychology behind it:

HR often worries that overqualified candidates will leave as soon as a better opportunity arises. Many recruiters have experienced this before.

When you clearly explain why the role aligns with your career goals and how your experience adds value, the “overqualified” label shifts from a risk to a benefit.

    The reality:
“Overqualified” is one of the hardest objections to manage.

Remember this: do not apologize for your experience. Expertise should justify a premium, not a discount. Being overqualified is only a problem if you allow it to be framed as one.

And if this objection comes up repeatedly, it may be a sign that it’s time to pursue a more senior role.

After the Interview: Silence is NOT a Professional Status Update!

Hours of preparation, deep research, and nerves. Then, a 60-minute interview where you give it your all. The result? "We'll get back to you soon."

Days turn into weeks, and sometimes months. The candidate is left in limbo—caught between hope and frustration. We need to acknowledge a hard truth in the hiring world:
    • Rejection doesn’t hurt; being ignored does. Most candidates can handle a "No." What they can’t handle is their time and effort being completely disregarded.

    • Candidate experience is a mirror of company culture. If the very first interaction lacks transparency and respect, it raises serious red flags about the internal work environment.

    • Silence kills momentum. Keeping a candidate "hanging" without any updates drives top talent to look elsewhere. You aren't just losing a candidate; you're losing your reputation as an employer of choice.

A message to every recruiter and hiring manager: A simple "Thank you, but we’ve decided to move forward with another candidate" respects our time far more than a month of ghosting ever will.

    ❌ Don’t call

Candidates are NOT your backup plan.
    They take leave.
    They prepare.
    They show up seriously.

A good friend of mine traveled 2 hours, prepared slides, took a day off…
    ...only to get:

“Unfortunately, we are not moving forward.”

All because the budget wasn’t approved.
    💡 Honesty doesn’t demotivate.
    ⏳ Wasting time does.

    It’s okay to say:

“This role is on hold due to budget constraints.”

Respect candidates’ time like you expect them to respect yours.
Every interview… every resume… is someone pausing their life for your opportunity. 🙏

It is just a reality of today's job market.

Some of the best talent is still looking for opportunities not because they're not skilled, but because the system is broken.

    A system where:

    •Companies want perfection.
    •Fake job postings exist everywhere.
    •Age bias quietly affects decisions.

•Jobs are reposted even after someone is chosen.
•Interviews feel like interrogation instead of conversation.
•Candidates get ghosted after multiple rounds.

•Hiring takes weeks or even months.
•Career gaps are judged more than actual skills.
    •Candidates do long unpaid assignments.

The right hire is not always the one who has a job now.
It's the one ready to step in and make a real difference.  less
