Finding a Job in the UAE – A Reality Check

These days, we see many posts on LinkedIn saying that it’s extremely hard to find a job in the UAE without recommendations, especially for newcomers who arrive on a visit visa.
    This is not entirely true.

Yes, for high-paying or senior-level jobs, you definitely need a strong reference – but remember, reference and recommendation are not the same.

What many people don’t understand is that the UAE has a unique work culture and professional style, which might be very different from our home countries. Because of this, work experience from back home may not fully help here unless it matches UAE standards.

    So what should newcomers do?

If you’re new to the UAE, focus on getting an entry-level job in your field of interest. Here’s how:

    Attend open interviews and walk-ins.

Apply not only online but also physically.

Print out your CV, choose an area, and visit companies.
Many companies have CV drop boxes at their reception or gate.

Once you land your first job, remember:
Your first job here is not for earning, it’s for learning.

    During this period:

    Learn the job well.

Get your driving license if your field benefits from it.

Build real professional connections – not just on LinkedIn, but in real life with people in your industry.

When you complete one visa cycle and have around 6 months left, start applying for new jobs.
Now you are no longer a fresher in the UAE; you have local experience, and that makes a big difference.

Over time, the connections you make will turn into referrals, and referrals will open the door to better opportunities.

    So don’t blame the country.
The UAE is a beautiful place full of opportunities for those who put in the effort.  less

#jobhunting in the UAE currently looks like this:

Companies want “fresh graduates” with 3+ years of UAE experience, their own visas… all for 3,000 AED.

Honestly, job descriptions these days read like:
A horror story at best - piling impossible requirements onto entry‑level roles.
A joke at worst - undervaluing talent while asking for the moon.

And here’s the thing: it’s not just unfair to candidates. It’s a missed opportunity for employers too.
    - You lose out on fresh perspectives.
    - You push away motivated graduates who could grow into long‑term assets.
    - You send the message that retention and respect aren’t priorities.

The result? A talent market where trust erodes and both sides end up frustrated.

Job descriptions should inspire, not intimidate. They should attract, not repel.

👉 What’s the most unrealistic requirement you’ve seen in a JD lately?  less

I have watched 10,000+ candidates interview for GCC positions.
The ones who get offers vs those who don't?
It's decided in the first 60 seconds—before they even speak.
Here are 6 body language mistakes that kill Gulf job interviews:

    1️⃣ Weak Handshake
In Gulf business culture, your handshake matters 2x more. Too soft = lack of confidence. Too aggressive = overcompensating. Match the interviewer's energy.

    2️⃣ Poor Eye Contact
GCC companies love panel interviews. The 70% eye contact rule applies across ALL panel members, not just the senior person.

    3️⃣ Closed Posture
Gulf offices are more formal than Western companies. Crossed arms = defensive. Stay open, slightly forward = engaged.

    4️⃣ Wrong Gestures
Pointing with one finger is disrespectful in Arab culture. Use an open palm. Never show the soles of your shoes.

    5️⃣ Mismatched Tone
If the interviewer is formal, stay formal. Gulf business values respect over Western casualness. Mirror their formality level.

    6️⃣ Nervous Fidgeting
Gulf employers watch body language during salary negotiation. Fidgeting = uncertainty about your worth. Stay still, confident.

33% of GCC hiring managers decide in 60 seconds.
Your words matter. But your presence decides first.
Which of these 6 do you struggle with most? Drop the number 👇

💔 A small request to companies before calling candidates for interviews

Not every job seeker comes with a backup plan.
Some borrow money for travel, skip meals, or take unpaid leave — just to show up with hope.

But imagine their pain when they realize the position was already fixed internally.

If you’ve already chosen someone through reference, please be honest.
Don’t invite others just to “complete the process.”
It’s not fair. It’s not professional.

Behind every resume is a person — someone’s son, daughter, or parent — carrying a dream that this interview might change their life.

Let’s bring humanity back into hiring.

    Do you agree?

I’ve seen this pattern over and over again - in business, in marketing, in life.

It looks messy at the moment.
But when you zoom out, it makes perfect sense.

    A few wrong turns.
    A few false starts.
    A lot of "not yet".

    Then suddenly… one small win.
    Then another.
    Then momentum kicks in.

Progress rarely feels like progress while you’re in it.
It feels like frustration, mistakes, and trying the same thing three different ways.

    But that’s how it works.

We don’t get success instead of failures.
We get success because of them.

If everything is going wrong right now, it doesn’t mean you’re off track.
It might mean you’re closer than you think.

What’s one "wrong turn" that ended up pointing you in the right direction? 👇  less

    Prove them wrong with results:

The people who doubted you, dismissed your potential, or didn't believe you could succeed become your biggest motivators once you decide to use their skepticism as fuel rather than let it hold you back.

How to channel doubt into career success:

    1️⃣ Remember who underestimated you
↳ Keep a mental note of the people who said you weren't ready or capable - let that drive your work ethic.

2️⃣ Let results speak louder than words
↳ Don't argue with doubters or try to convince them - just show up and deliver exceptional work consistently.

3️⃣ Use rejection as data, not defeat
↳ Every time someone says no or doubts your ability, treat it as information about what you need to prove, not truth about your worth.

4️⃣ Stay focused on your own progress
↳ Comparison and external validation waste energy - measure yourself against your own growth and capabilities.

5️⃣ Document your wins along the way
↳ Track your achievements and milestones so you can see how far you've come when doubt creeps back in.

6️⃣ Succeed loudly without being arrogant
↳ Share your wins publicly and celebrate your progress without putting others down or seeking validation from doubters.

The sweetest revenge is massive success.

Not because you need to prove anything to people who doubted you, but because you proved something to yourself.

Have you ever been doubted by someone and then proved them wrong?

🔥 One of the Biggest Mistakes Job Seekers Make in Dubai: Waiting for the “Perfect Opportunity.” 🇦🇪

Many freshers and even experienced professionals delay their job search results because they keep searching for the ideal company, the ideal job title, or the ideal salary.
    But here’s the truth 👇

👉 Your first job in Dubai is not your final job.
It’s your entry ticket into the market.

    What actually matters the most?
Getting your foot inside the industry.
Once you’re in, doors open faster than you imagine.

    💡 Start small.
    💡 Learn everything.
    💡 Build experience.
    💡 Upgrade your skills.

Most success stories in Dubai didn’t start at the top —
they started with a job that gave them visibility, learning, and stability.

    Don’t wait for perfection.
Take the opportunity you get, grow inside it, and climb up.

The right career will come —
but only when you start moving.

The job market is tough right now.
You can do everything correctly, prepare properly, research deeply…
and still face rejection or be ghosted.

That does not mean you are not talented.
It simply means your opportunity has not reached you yet.

If you are not job searching at the moment,
you can still help someone who is.

Here are 5 simple ways to support job seekers 👇

1️⃣ Reply to messages and emails
↳ A short response can boost someone’s confidence instantly.
↳ Small kindness has a big impact.

    2️⃣ Give a warm referral
↳ Share their CV internally or mention them to a manager.
↳ It takes two minutes and can change someone's path.

    3️⃣ Share job openings
↳ Check your company’s open roles.
↳ Share them publicly or privately with someone who needs them.

    4️⃣ Offer helpful insights
↳ Share interview tips, career advice or networking guidance.
↳ Your experience might be exactly what they need.

    5️⃣ Endorse or recommend them
↳ Write a short LinkedIn recommendation or endorse key skills.
↳ Social proof helps candidates stand out.

The offer you are waiting for ➝ it is coming.
Maybe not today, maybe not this week, but it is on the way.

    Until then:
    ↳ Keep applying with intention
↳ Keep believing in your value
↳ Keep supporting others in the process

    Community matters.

A fake caring culture is worse than a toxic one.
At least with toxicity, you know where you stand.

    Fake caring hides behind smiles.
It says "we care", but means "please don’t make this uncomfortable".
It praises your work in meetings...then ignores your feedback after.

It’s leadership with empathy in words,
    and apathy in action.

Here’s how fake caring shows up at work:

1️⃣ "We hear you" → but nothing changes.
    2️⃣ "We’re like a family" → until KPIs drop.
3️⃣ "We value feedback" → unless it’s critical.

    The result?
    Distrust. Burnout. Quiet quitting.

Because pretending to care kills trust faster than open conflict ever could.

    Real care isn’t a slogan.
It’s honesty, follow-through, and doing the right thing even when it’s inconvenient.

You have something valuable—a job—that others desperately want but don’t have.

Instead of focusing on what you don’t feel like doing, appreciate that you can work. It reframes complaining into gratitude and minor discomfort into privilege.

Start choosing environments that bring out your best.

A great workplace isn’t defined by free coffee, fancy titles, or even the salary slip.

It’s defined by how it makes you feel when you log off at the end of the day.

Here’s what it looks like when you’re truly valued at work:

✅ Your voice is heard. People pay attention when you speak, even when your idea isn’t fully formed.
✅ You’re trusted to make decisions, not just follow instructions.
✅ Communication is clear. You don’t spend your energy guessing what leaders really mean.
✅ Your effort matters, even when results take time.
✅ You’re encouraged to grow, not held back out of convenience.
✅ Your personal time is respected. Boundaries aren’t seen as weakness.
✅ The company lives by its values, even when it costs them something.

    You can earn money anywhere.
But finding a place that helps you grow, respects your time, and treats you like a human being, that’s rare.

If you’ve found it, appreciate it.
If you haven’t, keep searching until you do.

Because a job pays the bills.
But the right company helps you build a life.

💬Would you say your current workplace brings out your best?  less

    🔹 Waits 2–4 days for a call
🔹 Prepares 3–6 days for the interview

And after all this effort, HR can't even spare 10 minutes to inform candidates whether they have been rejected or if the role is on hold?

If rejected - just give clarity; tell them why.
    It’s not a rocket science.
    👉 Stop ghosting candidates.  less
