Role Overview
This position centers on producing and repairing metal structures through MIG, TIG, and stick welding, while also supporting general facility upkeep. You will work from technical drawings and verbal instructions to cut, fit, and join metal components, then inspect your work for structural integrity. Beyond the welding table, you will assist with routine machinery maintenance and help keep the workshop environment safe, organized, and compliant with operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other alloys to assemble new components and repair existing structures.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to determine joint configurations, material requirements, and weld sequences.
- Prepare workpieces by cleaning, grinding, cutting, and fitting materials to exact tolerances before welding.
- Inspect completed welds visually and with basic measuring tools to confirm penetration, bead quality, and dimensional accuracy.
- Assist facility maintenance teams with repair and upkeep of machinery, conveyors, and structural fixtures as needed.
- Operate manual and power tools safely, including angle grinders, plasma cutters, drills, and oxy-fuel equipment, ensuring they remain in good working order.
- Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment, lockout/tagout procedures, and safe handling of flammable materials.
- Immediately report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or near-miss incidents to the supervising lead or safety officer.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; a technical certificate, trade school diploma, or apprenticeship in welding is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of hands-on welding experience with demonstrated proficiency in MIG, TIG, and stick processes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, schematics, and fabrication drawings with minimal supervision.
- Solid understanding of welding metallurgy, joint preparation, and distortion control techniques.
- Working knowledge of welding machines, electrical equipment, hand tools, and precision measuring instruments such as calipers and squares.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, steady hands, and physical stamina for standing, bending, lifting, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
- Strong attention to detail with a methodical approach to quality inspection and problem-solving.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a small team environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, including consistent use of protective gear and adherence to established procedures.
