Role Overview
You will be the face of the dining room, ensuring every guest feels welcomed and well cared for from arrival to departure. Working alongside a close-knit team, you will take orders, serve food and beverages, and keep service flowing smoothly during busy shifts. Your attention to detail and ability to stay composed under pressure will directly shape the reputation of the establishment and encourage guests to return.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet guests warmly, seat them promptly, and present menus while answering any questions about the day’s offerings.
- Take accurate food and drink orders, relay them clearly to the kitchen, and confirm special requests or dietary adjustments.
- Serve dishes and beverages in a timely manner, checking in with guests to ensure satisfaction throughout their meal.
- Handle orders and payments through the point-of-sale system, including cash, card, and digital transactions.
- Keep tables, counters, and service stations clean, organised, and fully restocked throughout your shift.
- Communicate closely with kitchen staff and fellow servers to coordinate timing and manage table turns efficiently.
- Respond to guest concerns or complaints calmly and professionally, escalating issues to management when necessary.
- Follow all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures, including proper handling, storage, and allergen awareness.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A certificate or diploma in hospitality management, hotel management, food and beverage service, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of two years of hands-on experience in a café, restaurant, hotel, bakery, or upscale hospitality environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work quickly and accurately during peak service periods without compromising quality.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with a guest-first approach to service.
- Comfort using point-of-sale systems; prior experience with POS software is strongly preferred.
- Possession of a valid Food Handler’s Certificate is an added advantage and demonstrates a solid grasp of food safety standards.
- Flexibility to work on weekends, public holidays, and rotating shifts as required by the operation.
