Role Overview
This is a front-of-house role in which you shape how guests experience a venue from the moment they walk in until they settle their bill and leave. Day to day, you'll move between greeting and seating arrivals, guiding people through the menu, relaying orders to the kitchen and bar, delivering food and drinks, and handling payments — all while keeping your section clean and your timing sharp. Because you are the guest's main point of contact, the accuracy and warmth you bring directly affect repeat visits, word-of-mouth reputation, and the smooth running of every shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome arriving guests, manage seating promptly, present menus, and set a positive tone for the visit.
- Explain menu items, daily specials, and current promotions accurately, and suggest dishes or drinks that suit each guest's stated preferences.
- Take food and beverage orders correctly, pass them clearly to kitchen and bar colleagues, and make sure every item reaches the right table within expected timing.
- Serve food and drinks in line with house service standards, then check back during the meal to confirm guests are satisfied and to address any concerns.
- Respond to questions, special requests, and complaints professionally, escalating anything beyond your authority to a supervisor.
- Clear, clean, and reset tables quickly to keep service flowing, and maintain the tidiness and stocking of dining areas and service stations throughout the shift.
- Prepare bills accurately, process cash, card, and digital payments, operate the POS system, and report any billing discrepancy or payment issue to a supervisor immediately.
- Support opening and closing routines, restock service items such as napkins, condiments, straws, and packaging, and coordinate closely with kitchen, cashier, and supervisory colleagues during peak periods.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in hospitality management, food and beverage service, hotel management, or a closely related field.
- Two to three years of experience in a restaurant, café, hotel, or comparable hospitality setting is preferred.
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and encourage guests to return.
- Neat, professional grooming and presentation, plus the attention to detail needed to keep tables, cutlery, glassware, and condiments correctly set up.
- Basic numeracy and cash-handling competence, including confidence using POS systems for billing, payment processing, and transaction reconciliation.
- Composure and consistency under pressure, particularly during busy shifts and peak service hours, without letting food and beverage quality slip.
- A collaborative approach to working with teammates, a dependable work ethic, and willingness to follow direction and established service protocols.
- Availability for a shift-based schedule that includes weekends and public holidays.
