Role Overview
This role is responsible for leading and growing a dedicated insurance sales unit, with a primary focus on building a strong team of agents who consistently meet revenue goals. Day-to-day, you will recruit and coach agents, monitor their performance, and create structured activity plans that keep the unit focused on hitting sales, persistency, and business-mix targets. Reporting to the Branch or Sales Manager on a contractual basis, you act as the bridge between the company’s strategic objectives and the daily execution of the sales team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the unit to achieve business plan targets across revenue, policy persistency, and product mix, adjusting tactics as market conditions shift.
- Proactively recruit, onboard, and retain a productive team of insurance agents, maintaining healthy agent numbers and reducing unwanted attrition.
- Monitor and evaluate agent performance through regular reviews, field observations, and data-driven feedback that drives measurable improvement.
- Design and communicate clear weekly and daily activity schedules, ensuring every agent has a defined plan and understands their priorities.
- Provide agents with the tools, leads, and operational support they need to deliver on their individual budgets.
- Organise and deliver training sessions that strengthen agents’ product knowledge, sales techniques, and professional competence.
- Identify and open new markets, building relationships that expand the unit’s reach and uncover fresh business opportunities.
- Apply performance management processes consistently, addressing underperformance early while reinforcing compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in a business-related field, with at least three years’ sales experience in insurance or financial services.
- Two years’ experience as a Unit or Agency Manager in the insurance or financial sector is a distinct advantage.
- Must hold a valid COP certificate and a current IRA license to operate in the Kenyan insurance market.
- Proven track record of selling within financial services, or demonstrable experience in teaching or another profession with strong sales relevance.
- Sound knowledge of Kenyan insurance legislation and the regulatory environment governing insurance sales and agency management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, for reporting, planning, and presentations.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to listen empathetically and handle conflict constructively within a team.
- Leadership capability, sales and marketing instinct, market intelligence, and solid business development acumen to grow both the unit and the broader company footprint.
