Role Overview
This role is centred on equipping learners with the practical and technical competencies they need for employment or further training in a specific vocational area. The trainer designs and facilitates learning that combines theory, demonstration, practice, and assessment, while keeping delivery aligned with national TVET standards. The position is important because it bridges curriculum requirements and real workplace expectations, helping learners graduate with verifiable skills and helping the institution maintain recognised training quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver competency-based training in the assigned trade, subject, or specialization using both classroom instruction and practical workshop activities.
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, learning resources, and assessment instruments based on approved curricula.
- Conduct demonstrations, supervised practice, simulations, and project work that build learners’ hands-on skills.
- Assess learners’ competence through practical tasks, written work, oral questioning, and portfolios, then provide constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate training, assessment, attendance, and learner progress records in line with institutional and TVETA requirements.
- Enforce safety, tool care, equipment maintenance, and proper workshop or laboratory conduct.
- Mentor learners on career readiness, workplace ethics, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Work with fellow trainers, assessors, verifiers, and industry partners to review and improve training delivery and outcomes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Academic and/or professional credentials: Relevant qualifications in the area of specialization, meeting the level required for the trade or subject taught.
- TVETA registration: A current and valid TVETA Trainer Registration or Licence for the relevant field.
- Occupational competence: Demonstrated practical ability and hands-on experience in the relevant trade or discipline.
- Training and assessment skills: Ability to plan, deliver, and assess competency-based training effectively.
- Communication and facilitation: Strong instructional, demonstration, learner-management, and feedback skills.
- Quality assurance knowledge: Familiarity with TVET assessment principles, record-keeping, and training standards.
- Safety and organisation: Capacity to maintain safe, inclusive, and well-organised learning environments.
- Professional development: Willingness to keep technical and pedagogical skills current through ongoing learning and industry engagement.
