Role Overview
As a TVET Trainer, you will deliver hands-on, competency-based instruction in your area of specialisation, guiding trainees from foundational theory through to confident, workplace-ready practice. Working largely in workshops, laboratories and simulated work environments, you will assess learners against defined competency standards and help them build the practical judgement employers actually need. The role sits at the centre of the institution's mandate: producing skilled, certified graduates whose abilities are recognised by industry and by the national training authority.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver competency-based lessons, demonstrations and practical assignments in the assigned area of specialisation, aligned to approved curricula and national occupational standards.
- Supervise trainees in workshops, laboratories or simulated work settings, enforcing safe handling of tools, equipment and materials at all times.
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments, including practical tasks, projects and portfolio reviews, and maintain accurate records of trainee progress and achievement.
- Prepare trainees for internal and external competency assessments, including trade tests and national examinations, through structured revision and practical rehearsal.
- Maintain, service and account for tools, equipment, consumables and training materials, reporting faults or replacement needs promptly.
- Provide academic and pastoral guidance to trainees, including career counselling and support in securing industrial attachment or placement opportunities.
- Participate in curriculum review, internal quality assurance, moderation of assessments and continuous improvement of training delivery.
- Liaise with industry partners and employers to keep training content current and to strengthen work-based learning linkages.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A valid TVETA Trainer Registration/Licence in the relevant area of specialisation — this is a mandatory minimum requirement and must be current at the time of application.
- Relevant academic qualifications in the field of specialisation, such as a diploma or degree in the technical, vocational or applied discipline being taught.
- Relevant professional qualifications, trade certification or licensure where the specialisation is regulated or industry-certified.
- Demonstrated practical, hands-on competence in the trade or technical area, gained through industry or workshop experience.
- Working knowledge of Competence-Based Education and Training (CBET) principles, competency standards and trainee assessment practice.
- Strong instructional and demonstration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to learners at different levels of prior knowledge.
- Sound understanding of occupational safety and health requirements in workshop, laboratory or field training environments.
- Good record-keeping, reporting and ICT skills for lesson planning, assessment documentation and learner data management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the integrity and reliability required to supervise young and adult trainees.
