Role Overview
A TVET Trainer equips learners with the practical skills, technical knowledge, and workplace behaviours needed to succeed in a chosen trade or technical field. Working within a competency-based training environment, the trainer plans and delivers both classroom instruction and hands-on workshop sessions, assesses learner competence, and upholds the standards set by TVETA. This role is central to producing job-ready graduates and to sustaining the quality and credibility of vocational training programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver competency-based training sessions that combine technical theory with practical application in the relevant area of specialization.
- Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, training materials, and assessment tools that align with approved curricula and TVETA requirements.
- Facilitate hands-on learning in workshops, laboratories, or simulated work settings, ensuring learners use tools, equipment, and materials safely and correctly.
- Assess trainees through practical tasks, written tests, projects, and portfolios; provide constructive feedback and maintain accurate progress records.
- Maintain training facilities, tools, and equipment, and report any defects or resource needs to the relevant department.
- Mentor and support learners, including guiding them on industrial attachment, portfolio development, and preparation for trade certification or licensing exams.
- Keep current with industry developments, emerging technologies, and safety regulations, and participate in professional development to renew and strengthen your TVETA licence.
- Collaborate with colleagues, industry partners, and quality assurance teams to review training effectiveness and support continuous improvement of programmes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Appropriate academic or professional credentials in your field of specialization, such as a diploma, degree, or recognized trade certification suitable for the level of training.
- A current TVETA trainer registration or licence covering your area of specialization, and the ability to keep it valid throughout employment.
- Demonstrated technical competence and practical experience in the trade, technical field, or subject area to be taught.
- Ability to plan, deliver, and assess competency-based education and training, including familiarity with CBET principles and TVET quality assurance frameworks.
- Strong communication, presentation, mentoring, and classroom or workshop management skills, with the ability to engage learners of varied backgrounds and abilities.
- Sound organisational and record-keeping abilities for tracking attendance, assessments, learner progress, and training resources.
- Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards in training environments, and to ethical, inclusive, and professional conduct.
- Prior instructional, teaching, or mentorship experience is an advantage, as is evidence of ongoing industry or professional development.
