Role Overview
As a registered TVET trainer, you will deliver competency-based instruction in your area of specialisation, moving learners from theory to demonstrable, workplace-ready skill. You will plan and facilitate practical sessions in workshops, laboratories or simulated work environments, assess learner competence against set standards, and provide the technical grounding that helps trainees progress into employment, self-employment or further study. The role is central to the institution's mandate: the quality of your delivery directly shapes whether graduates can perform safely and productively in industry from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver both theoretical and practical lessons in the assigned trade or discipline, aligning content with the approved competency-based curriculum and syllabus.
- Supervise hands-on sessions in workshops and laboratories, demonstrating correct techniques, tools and equipment use while enforcing safety and housekeeping standards.
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments, including practical tasks, projects and written tests, and maintain accurate records of learner progress and achievement.
- Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, session notes, teaching aids and assessment tools in advance of each term or module.
- Maintain, service and account for tools, machines, consumables and training materials, reporting faults or replacement needs promptly.
- Provide academic guidance, mentorship and remedial support to trainees, including those preparing for trade tests, national examinations or industrial attachment.
- Participate in curriculum review, internal verification, moderation of assessment results and institutional quality assurance activities.
- Liaise with industry partners to arrange industrial attachment, keep training content current with workplace practice, and support learner placement and progression.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Relevant academic and/or professional qualifications in the area of specialisation, at diploma level or higher, from a recognised institution.
- A valid TVETA Trainer Registration and Licence covering the relevant area of specialisation — this is a mandatory requirement and must be current at the time of application.
- Demonstrated technical competence in the trade or discipline, supported by prior teaching, instructing or industry practice in that field.
- Working knowledge of competency-based education and training principles, including the development of assessment tools and evidence-based evaluation of learner competence.
- Strong practical, demonstration and workshop supervision skills, with a sound understanding of occupational health and safety requirements in a training environment.
- Good communication, record-keeping and learner-management abilities, with the capacity to handle both classroom groups and individual practical coaching.
- Willingness to keep professional and technical knowledge current through further training, industry exposure and continuous professional development.
