Role Overview
As a TVET Trainer, you will be the person standing between a trainee's raw potential and a genuine, employable skill. Your days revolve around planning and delivering competency-based training in your area of specialisation, guiding learners through practical tasks in the workshop or laboratory, and assessing whether they can actually perform to industry standard rather than simply recall theory. The institution relies on you not just to teach, but to keep its training credible with employers, regulators and the trainees who invest their time and money in it.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver competency-based training sessions in your area of specialisation, combining practical demonstration with supporting theory.
- Develop and maintain training materials, schemes of work, session plans and assessment tools that align with the approved curriculum.
- Assess trainees through practical tasks, written work and competency-based evaluations, and keep accurate, up-to-date records of their progress.
- Guide learners through hands-on work in workshops, laboratories or simulated work environments, enforcing safe working practices at all times.
- Identify trainees who need additional support and provide coaching, remedial sessions or mentoring to help them reach the required competency level.
- Maintain tools, equipment and training resources in good working order, reporting faults or shortages promptly.
- Prepare candidates for internal and external assessment, including registration and documentation for the relevant examining or certification bodies.
- Work with colleagues and industry contacts to keep training content current and to support trainee attachment, placement and progression opportunities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A valid TVETA Trainer Registration or Licence in your relevant area of specialisation — this is a mandatory requirement for the role.
- Relevant academic qualifications, such as a diploma or degree in your field of specialisation, or an equivalent professional qualification.
- Demonstrated technical competence and practical experience in the trade or discipline you will be training.
- Familiarity with competency-based education and training approaches, including the design and use of assessment tools.
- Strong communication and demonstration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to learners at different levels.
- Sound planning, record-keeping and organisational abilities, including the discipline to meet assessment and reporting deadlines.
- A commitment to workplace safety and to modelling professional conduct for trainees.
To be considered, send your CV together with your academic and professional certificates and a valid TVETA Trainer Licence to [email protected]. Applications close on 9th October 2026.
