Tupande Cashew Extension & Aggregation Officer (Fixed-Term)

Role Overview

This role anchors a cashew buying centre on the Kenyan coast, where you will personally receive, grade, and pay for raw cashew nuts brought in by smallholder farmers. Your day‑to‑day work directly connects local growers to a structured market, ensuring they receive fair, prompt payment while the organisation secures a consistent supply of quality nuts. Beyond the centre, you will visit farms to deliver agronomic advice, reinforce quality standards, and gather data that helps the programme scale effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Run the buying centre during advertised hours, keeping the premises clean, orderly, and secure at all times.
• Receive raw cashew nuts from farmers and brokers, weigh each delivery accurately, and inspect every batch for damage, mould, or other defects before accepting.
• Process payments through the FieldPro system, comply with KRA/eTIMS requirements, and immediately report any disputes, discrepancies, or irregularities to your supervisor.
• Handle, dry, and store raw cashew nuts strictly according to the organisation’s standard operating procedures.
• Deliver hands‑on agronomic training to farmers in your assigned area, communicate purchase specifications and quality requirements, and conduct regular field visits with written reports to your supervisor.
• Coordinate with Tupande Agents and Zone Supervisors to mobilise farmers for delivery and collection days.
• Interview farmers and brokers, record data using digital tools (stock takes, scouting forms), and escalate any data‑quality concerns to your supervisor.
• Work with loaders, the logistics team, and your supervisor to schedule and execute collection of raw cashew nuts from the centre.

Requirements & Qualifications

Required:

• Verifiable prior experience with an agricultural aggregation, trading, or comparable operations employer.
• Ability to read and write in English and the local language, plus competence in basic arithmetic.
• Demonstrated integrity and accountability in handling agricultural goods, weighing, and record‑keeping.
• Fluency in Kiswahili and familiarity with local coastal languages.
• Computer literacy and comfort using tablets or smartphones for data‑collection tools.
• Strong attention to detail in quality control, record‑keeping, and payment processing.
• Capable of working independently and proactively solving problems with limited daily supervision.
• Willingness to travel across the assigned area and to perform hands‑on handling of raw cashew nuts.
• Established connection to the local farming community.

Nice to have:

• Prior experience specifically with cashews and/or on the Kenyan coast.
• Previous experience operating a buying or collection centre.
• Familiarity with Tupande’s operations.
