Role Overview
The Trade Development Representative is a field-based role that owns the health of the SIM and mobile money trade within an assigned territory. Working under the Area Sales Manager, you will spend most of your week on the road, moving through an agreed beat of SSOs and T-Kash agent outlets to keep them stocked, trained, branded and actively selling. The position is central to the visibility and transaction volumes of the brand at the point of purchase, and it suits someone who is comfortable influencing small retailers face to face rather than working from a desk.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit and map new SSOs and T-Kash agents, prioritising mobile money outlets and high-footfall retail shops that can drive transaction growth.
- Follow the approved beat plan and maintain the agreed call rate, visiting each SSO and agent outlet in the territory on schedule.
- Equip outlets with the tools and materials they need to transact, and walk agents and SSO staff through the correct processes for using them.
- Deliver AML training to T-Kash agents and KYC training to SSOs in line with SIM registration requirements, and test understanding where required.
- Monitor float and stock cover, enforcing the 1.5x stock rule with agents and making sure SSOs hold enough SIMs to keep new registrations and activations flowing.
- Maintain merchandising standards by placing and refreshing point-of-sale visibility materials at every SSO and agent outlet.
- Build day-to-day relationships with outlet owners and staff so that issues with float, stock or registration are flagged and resolved quickly.
- Feed observations from the field back to the Area Sales Manager so that territory plans reflect what is actually happening in the trade.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing or a related discipline.
- At least one year of hands-on experience in a sales and distribution role, ideally gained with an FMCG company or a telecommunications operator.
- Demonstrated customer focus, with the ability to keep retailer and agent needs at the centre of daily decisions.
- Strong influencing and negotiation skills, particularly when dealing with independent outlet owners.
- Proven ability to network and build lasting partnerships across a trade network.
- Analytical thinking, including the ability to read outlet-level performance and act on it.
